Hi guys,

Went to start my ute this morning, and the key wouldn't even unlock / disarm the door, no power to anything. Even after unlocking the door manually, not even the interior lights came on.

I suspect it's the battery, but the ute only has 24,000km on it, so seems odd to me.

Are batteries covered by warranty? or are they considered a consumable?

Anyone else had this issue?

Cheers.

happened to me the other day. Connected jumper leads and a few mins later started. Si nce then I used a CTEK charger to charge the battery.

Not sure why it happened but hasnt happened since.

Maybe the cold weather?

Although mine is almost 3 years and just under 60000km on the clock

Thanks mate, I'll give it a jump tonight and see how it goes.

I think just about every VE V8 owner has or will go through this....

I never had any battery issues when i had my ssv, but in the last 2months ive had the original battery replaced under warranty(at 2600kms) & jump started 1 once.

Thanks for the replies. I didnt drive the ute yesterday, so from Tuesday night to this morning, it's gone completely dead, not even a "click" a "whir" or fluttering of lights.

Others that have experienced this have had the same issue, where not even the doors disarm?

Yeah mine did it around 3 months ago. One minute the Atari guage shows full battery then nothing. It will be the battery for sure. You will have to pull down the rear seat thing and there is a yellow tab to pull for the boot realese.

some people have warned about jump starting, but holden suggested I do it. Any reason why jump starting might not be good? for the ECU? It's manual.

The voltage spike can fry the ECU that being said that is why you have the +ve barb in the engine bay, jump it off that. You should probable use proper jumper leads design for cars with electronics. (they suppress the voltage spike).

A battery (from holden factory) only has a 12month warrenty Im lead to beleive. most places will offer 2 year warrenty on replaement. My advice is get it tests (its probably dropped a cell) and then get it changed over.

I had a similar thing happen to my ute turned out the negative treminal had come loose. tightened it up never had a problem again.

+VE barb in engine bay? So, you dont jump them by hooking up directly to the battery? I havent looked yet, but is there any guidence on this in the owners manual?

Fark no. Have a look in the engine bay, next to the pass side strut tower you'll see the red plastic cover for where you hook up the pos jumper lead. The neg is suppose to be hooked up to the barb that protrudes from the pass side guard above where the OE cold air box normally sits.

Jump it and it should be alright but i would recommend you have a look at upgrading the battery to a better unit before to long.

Cheers
Chris

No worries, sussed it out. I'm at work, ute is at home, went and had a look at my work mates SS and owners manual, know what to do now.

Saved by the LS1 forum again!
