Holden has announced a recall of 9,547 Holden Cruze's to fix a potential fire risk
The risk is to the 1.4 litre turbo petrol and follows a similar recall in the U.S.A.

I don't own a Cruze and know nothing of a recall in the U.S.A. of cars built since 2010 (413,418 in total)
If it was known the US cars were at risk of catching fire before the Cruze was released here in 2011 I would have thought a fix would be found before the car was released here, and it is only the 1.4 petrol turbo's built and released here since June 2011
Surely it hasn't taken 2 years to realise there was a design problem
The recall only applies to the recently released 1.4L turbo models. We were notified of this morning when I arrived at work.

It's being overhyped. The risk is that if you do a service badly and spill oil everywhere it can pool in the undertray and catch fire. There have been no cases of fire in any Australian cars, and there aren't likely to be. There have been a very small number of cases in the US, mainly a result of shit mechanics who have NFI on how not to spill oil everywhere.

The way it was televised on channel 7 wouldn't have been very good for the potential car buyer.
It went something like this as they went to an ad break .....
"Coming up on 7 news we tell you of the Holden Cruze recall and who is at risk" panic .....panic

yeah I thought he was just having a dig-I didn't see any problem with my thread he came back on.Words need to be word perfect sometimes when doing a search
I mothballed the SS as I had lost interest in driving it every day due to needing to know my car was super reliable, losing the axle bolts was the last straw.I will decide what to do with it after tax time-Need a ute for my kayaks
Now I have the MY11 Lancer as a daily driver the fun has come back into my motoring and I am using 1/2 the fuel

The media is good at making things look worse. Especially at the expense of its own industry. :vpo:
They said something about oil possibly leaking onto the exhaust manifold from underneath the engine, if a shoddy oil change is carried out.
Sounds like a good reason to not buy a FWD car in general. Exhaust manifold under the engine? :weirdo:

Exhaust manifold under the engine?
I know my Lancer FWD is the same as my V8,the manifold hangs off the side of the block but at the back, oil would need to leak from the rocker cover to get onto the exhaust,
Can't comment on other makes

Didn't the early VE's have a recall on potential fire risk from a fuel line?

Do any of the W.A. guys have any news on the ute that backed into a fence and a fire was involved ( driver died either due to fire or before the accident)
There is a thread somewhere on this,I will repost there if I can find it,
May need to wait and see if Coroner's report makes the news

I live about a minute away from the incident you are questioning. This went all very quiet and we still haven't found out what happened. Rumors were circulating about drugs and a murder. Goss more than anything.

Yep, the Cruze 1.8 engines also had a fuel line recall and so did the diesels :)
