Guys just wondering what peoples thoughts are on servicing theses auto's, our sep 09 SS has just done 40000km's and i'm wondering if a service would be wise. Ie have others done services and noticed dirty fluid/pan??? and what km's did you do it.

Our SS is on highway 80% of the time(6th gear locked up) so i'm thinking 60K mark would be ok. I used to service my 4sp auto's at 40000km but that was city driving and pan's were dirty.

Any personal experiences would be nice to know your thoughts

Cheers

I bought a VE V8 with 110,000km and noticed that the owners manual says it's not necessary until 150,000km. I know the consensus is to change it more than the owners manual reccomends, some people even go as far as saying every 20,000km or 12 months etc, perhaps due to huge hp or towing etc. I had my car serviced and asked the guy to check the quality of the fluid and they said it was very good for its age and suggested not dropping it, which they didn't. I think this gearbox uses a longer lasting fluid and the box itself is better so I would think a change for you isn't necessary unless you tow heavy loads/drive it hard or have huge power.

i did mine around the 120k mark the oil was still very clean even then and my car cop's a hiding, so if i were you i wouldnt worry about it.

the only thing i would do is take the trans cooler line out of the radiator because if it splits now out of warranty it will be an expensive fix.

I replaced my trans fluid at 60,000kms. Fluid was still ok. Better to do it when fluid is good than when fluid has already deteriated

Had mine done at around 35k just to see how it looked - was still fine. If ever gaz05 resurfaces and sends me back my Caddy pan it will be done again when the Caddy pan and filter are fitted.

Just did a auto servive on my new(to me) 08 berlina V6 on gas at 63000km's there was a bit of muck on the pan magnet so glad i did it. Think i'll do the SS at 60000km's as well.

I don't know that there's a kit as such for the A6. You just need a filter (part 24252158 list price $69 + GST last time I checked) and possibly gasket (part 24224781 list $64+) though if you're careful they can be reused. Then from memory 9.5L Dexron VI although they apparently like being slightly overfilled.

geez thanks wonks that's a few $$$$ just for a filter, service kits for the 4 speed were $30 from memory with gasket/filter.

The gasket will go again. When I got dextron 6 from Holden is wasn't priced to bad. Can't remember if they did it in 1ltr bottles or only in 5ltrs. If you can get 1ltr bottles it will make it cheaper for you 😄

I got a kit from Repco - had a pan gasket in it and new filter - cost about $40 I think... give them a ring he just grabbed off the shelf (for 680le)

The trans fluid cost stings a bit though!!!!
