I have a VZ sedan fitted with a big head and cam combo. It is also fitted with a twin 3in X-force exhaust with pacemaker headers. My problem is that it is so loud it sounds like a bloody Nascar. I am looking for suggestions on a way of lowering the cars noise with out restricting the flow too much. Is there a muffler that can be a direct replacement for this system that may help. I have thought about fitting a hotdog or two but I don't think it will lower the nose level enough.

Any suggestions and help would be great.

Cheers

Dan, I am looking at doing the same with mine. I am thinking of finding a stock rear muffler and fitting that to the 3" centre. falling short of that I rang x force anout the varex system. $495 + postage. And I think you would need more than 2 hotdogs to shut it up.. Hopefully somebody has a tried and proven system so i can put my 3" system back on too..

Cheers
Wayne

Diff dump a twin 3 X-Force system then you get a whole new meaning to the word offensive!
I'm toying with the idea of going a lot bigger in cam size and was also thinking i'd need to tone down the exhaust noise with some newer, less hollow mufflers.

you running 3 mufflers after the cats? my mate recently got the twin 3" system (3 mufflers) put on his vz ss with headers and hi-flow cats and yeh that thing was pretty loud. noticeably louder than my vy clubby which has pacemaker tri-ys and a twin 2.5" cat back with only 1 rear muffler

id like to know how you go because ive got the pacemaker headers like yourself but am considering swapping my catback because im not entirely happy with the reback catback although noise level wise its pretty good

Hi Dan, i had the same set up in my Monaro with all 3" Xforce, my nabours complaned about the noise so early in the morning so i fitted 2 Xforce varex mufflers so i can know have the best of both. I done a dyno tune after fitting and barley lost 2kw when switched to quite Chow Mowally.

Are you saying that you replaced the mufflers in the centre of the car? or fitted 2 small mufflers at the rear? If you dont mind me asking what was the price you paid?
I thought of doing that, but as said. $495 for the rear muffler alone. twin 3" in and out, just seamed easier to fit a stock muffler on the rear. and then change it to the x force rear when at the drags. .

The best thing you can do to an X-Force system is to take it off. They are obnoxiously loud no matter what you try and do to them, and they don't do much for performance either. You will find that if you go to a decent 2.5" system, it will not be as loud and have a better note, and 9/10 time, you will gain power.

Recommendations for a decent exhaust? my mate has a 2.5 DF on his VZ SS. sounds crisp. but he hates it.

I dont know. for $550 a brand new, twin 3 x-force is pretty good value in my books. Hence why i dumped the sureflo 3.5.

What was your full system souljah and what is it now?

Didn't like the sureflo 3.5?

Unsure as to why people keep bitching that XForce twin 3 is too loud, it seems to be very acceptable to my stock cammed M6. Even got a H pipe to give it a bit more of a beefy note.

Was tossing up on deleting the two front mufflers, but decided against as I think it might become too loud then haha.

Sureflo short 4-1 extractors, CHE 100cpi stainless cats, Sureflo loud 3.5 with rear resi on a VY M6 ute.
The sureflo was pretty tame in comparison to the x-force and had a very boomy drone to it.

Varex rear worked well on a mates H&C with twin 3". Other option is to change to a Difilippo.

I have a 2.5": Burkley on mine. It is the quietest one in their range. It is rather quiet for an LS1 with a decent size cam. But it has a great note. Nice and deep and none of the barkiness the X-Force is known for. I am about to change the tail pipes for the louder version to give it a bit more sound. Although as it is, mine hit the db limit when it was tested.

Shit welds that are known to crack, and mufflers that blow the guts out? Once again, you get what you pay for. I was lucky enough to not have any issues with mine before I got rid of it, but many others have had issues with them. Its the luck of the draw I guess.

Mine wasn't loud either until I threw in a cam swap. It went from to quiet to obnoxiously loud in an instant. And the boys in blue thought so to. I had to get it tested and it read 110db.

115 decibels is definatly acceptable by my standards. But " Sargent Serious" takes offence to it. and having the respect for my neighbours, I try to keep the noise down to a reasonable level.

Id be interested if someone can solve this. Ive got Trys, 100cpi 3 inch cats, and twin 2.5 with no rear mufflers and its really barky.

What make/model exhaust parts do you have and on what car / mods?

...out of curiosity

Tunnafun: Was that with a stock cam? My old r32 Skyline got done at around that, decat and 3" pipe, sounded a LOT louder than the twin 3" Xforce on my VZ.

A few years ago got a head and cam job done to the VZ, 232,238 cam, Higgins heads, Difilippo extractors, Auspac 3" exaust, ect.................#%@#$%~* loud. New it would be but still surprised. The crack and burble on the over run was just lovely. As long as you appreciated that sort of thing. A vast majority of the public don't. And the police love to get ya as its easy pickings for them, and its there job. Put on a couple of Difilippo spiral resonators on to try to back it off a bit. Well made dident make any noticeable difference.

At times it has been a nerve racking ride with a couple of random pull overs and drive through brethos. Would fail noise and emissions without even trying.
So to try and avoid a big problem put on an Australian made Hurricain 2.5" system and it has helped to back it of to a much more acceptable noise level. Would rather drop the decibels and and a bit of power and improve my chances of keeping the car on the road. Unfortunately these are the times we live in.
