Hey guys, what else am I missing here that the Signature gets over the Basic Signature:
DVD player
Front park assist
Drivers seat with memory
Is that really all? There seems to be a significant price difference between the 2 when new, yet I'd expect more in terms of difference for that. Do both have MRC?

Seem to recall that the Senator missed out on nappa leather, can't recall whether MRC was included or not.

Well spotted, now it seems the Sig gets the GTS seats, non-sig gets the clubsport interior. Still can't find the price difference yet though...
[edit] dunno why this didn't come up in my seach, suppose this can be closed now.

MRC standard on Signature. If you go to HSV website then See HSV - HSV Classics, then E series LS3 there is spec list for Sig and base Senator.

From drive.com.au:
HSV releases a cut-price Senator
Richard Blackburn, drive.com.au, February 27, 2009
HSV has released a limited edition Senator that costs $10,000 less than the regular model. By RICHARD BLACKBURN.
Holden Special Vehicles has released a recession-busting version of its Senator that costs $10,000 less than the regular model.
The limited-edition Senator costs just $69,990, compared with $80,500 for the regular Senator Signature model.
But the price cut means buyers will have to make do with fewer creature comforts and less technology.
The car doesn’t get the Senator Signature’s magnetic ride control, which gives the driver a choice between stiffer suspension settings for sportier handling and a more luxurious ride for soaking up the bumps.
It also misses out on the Signature’s flashier “chrome shadow” wheels, luxury seats and parking sensors.
The Senator Signature is aimed at customers who prefer understated styling and more luxury features, rather than the “look at me” body kits of the Clubsport and GTS.
HSV spokesman Simon Frost says the formula has proved successful for the car maker, with 430 Senator Signatures sold last year.
“It is our third most popular nameplate,” he says.
He says the limited edition Senator wasn’t designed to be a recession-buster, but admits it may appeal to people on a tighter budget.
“We think there is a market out there at this sharper price point,” he says.
The Senator nameplate is one of HSV’s most successful, stretching back to the first model in 1992.
The limited edition Senator comes with leather onyx seats as standard and is available in seven colours.
The company will build 30 manual and 59 auto Senators. There is no premium for an automatic transmission.
The Senator will be featured on the HSV stand at the Melbourne motor show, along with the W427 and ClubSport R8 Tourer.
HSV will use the show to drum up interest in the W427 before it stops taking orders for the car in April.
The company capped production of the model at 200 units, but with roughly 120 sold so far, it will take a miracle for orders to reach that number.

Cheers gents.
Seems dealers are getting caught out with this one to, I bet a few have been traded as Signatures - this probably explains the no parity on the second hand market....

I know what you mean. I am in the market at the moment as well. There is one in Sydney advertised as an E2 Signature when it is a base 09. You really need to know what you're looking for.
Good luck in your search.

That was one of many I enquired on (Suttons?), and why I started this thread to get a bit more clarity, they said that all Senators are Signatures.
I think the prices are staying up to because of guys like us, seems there's a strong market for these at the moment (says so in one of teh ads I saw, haha).

This "base" Senator was built off an R8 Clubsport. Any HSV dealer can confirm the specifics by logging into HSV RAP, or non HSV dealers can ask their HSV distributor to do so. The differences are pretty easy to spot with even half an idea of the specific model options.

As davo says the Senator (non sig version) is basically a Clubsport with senator body kit. So misses out on:
MRC suspesnion
The better gts seats with memory added
auto front power windows
front parking sensors
auto rain sensing windscreen wipers
rear roof dvd player
probably auto dip mirrors
chrome trim around windows
prob leather door trim inserts
maybe auto dip reversing mirrors
Or in other words senator signature has the calais/stato electric gadgets. Same brakes, engine, g/box.
HSV really should have made the name clearer as they have stuffed up the second hand market a fair bit.

Looked at a base Senator on the weekend, coming from a Calais V it was kind of boring (from a gadget perspective), but that's not why I'm looking. Dealers aren't budging, I'm not trading my car so they can make a $10k profit on it, actually getting pretty frustrating - there's an '07 Ls2 Signature in NSW at the moment, guys asking $34900 and kms are in the 40's - this car at a dealer up here would be well into the $40k region.

At that price I suspect it will have been a statutory write off at one point in its life...................

Not necessarily, they have dropped quite a bit in value.
still worthwhile checking though

It's probably still above what was offered as a trade on it, that's how I bought my Calais, guy just wanted a bit more than what he was offered as trade. But you should be checking out history regardless of price. Also as JT has said, the LS2's seem to have taken a bit of a hit lately, I've been shopping since January, there's still some cars online that's been there longer than that.

Looking at the ad in Carsales, that one (in Evoke) does look like good value.

Yeah, must admit I've only been watching prices on LS3s as that's definitely what I'd go for if someone dropped $25k in my lap, so I guess for exactly the same reasoning by others the LS2s have taken a bit of a hit.

I spoke to a guy in Finley (about 2 hrs south west of Wagga) about his black MY09. Currently on Carsales for $42900, I think. Sounded like a well looked after car with a high percentage of highway kms as he drives 100km to work each day. Could be worth a look.

I'm expecting a few more E1's come to market soon and maybe put a bit more pressure on prices as 3 year leases exprire, and that includes E2's soon enough.
