Hi guys

Just wanting to know if it is normal for a stalled LS1 to drop the revs down to idle when the brakes are applied.
It was doing this after the stall was installed and then was retuned but nothing changed

Yes that is normal. You revs dont sit at stall speed. It only flashes up when you jump on the accelerator.

Bullshit, you should be able to hold it close to stall on the brakes. Even a stock VE will sit at 2200rpm on the brake, not 650rpm idle

And here we have the usual "lack of information" answers, because both answers are right.....

If you are driving along and change from the throttle to the brake, your engine RPM will drop to idle. This is due to the loose stall converter not transmitting drive back from the gear box to the motor, so you get no real engine braking with the loose stall. A stock stall is tight enough to transmit some drive back to the motor, giving some engine braking. The exception to this is of course if you have a lockup stall and the TCC remains locked.

However, if you are stationary and stand on the brakes and then give it throttle, the engine RPM will increase to around the rated stall speed of the converter.

I'm guessing that the OP was actually referring to the former situation though.

Simon.

Thanks Simon - exactly what I was after

I wasn't talking about getting it up on stall off the line. I was talking about while driving. I don't know about you, but when I'm driving, I don't hold my foot flat on the brake and accelerator at the same time lol

What your'e saying is correct though. I drag race often (as my avatar might point out) and have a high stall in a built A4. So I do know how they work.

As Swingtan said, there was a lack of information with the OP
