very good result
it not stock though, but stock internally.
a good tune and wide tyres and suspension setup help a lot.
be interesting just to keep mucjing round with the suspension setup and see if it will lower it more. beating some cammed manual times there.

Lock the converter and you will see high numbers ;)
Converter efficiency and STR will also have an effect on power readings. Would like to see the difference in power between a stock converter and an aftermarket unit, but it's quite a job to R & R to see what the difference is.
Well done Mitch

Another statement from someone who has no idea of the weakness of the lockup convertor.
On a yank dynojet dyno it may be possible to lock the convertor and get it to survive , but on a proper eddy current dyno the lockup clutch can not survive the load , thats why it is programmed to unlock as soon as the throttle is opened.
Aftermarket convertor both a TCI and a Dominator lost 20 kw on the dyno - also lost mph at the track due to thier slippage.
Great effort by Mitch and Deb to get it down the track on the street tyres and stock convertor without it wheel spinning everywhere , glad to get knocked of by a customers car

Thanks for the replies
It does go to show the potential of the ls1 with the right mods in street trim.
The best part is knowing you dont have to part with shit loads of money to buy the best hsv or equivilent to make a car perform. This vt is an exec previously owned by the police used as a country highway car.
Now time for some mods to the new vy ss:cheers:

We were only talking about the same thing recently.
It is so hard to believe that a car can be so sedate on the street, with better fuel economy than std. then roll down to the strip, then blast out times like this. It just goes to show you really don't know how quick a car is just by looks.:burnout:

Is there that much loss with a Dominator? Maybe that means I will see 280rwkw with a better converter.

No idea  Funny, last time I check Yank build converters with TCC materials designed to lockup at full load.
All Yank's Nitrous/Blower converters have Posi Lock-up Clutch with carbon/ceramic linings or Kevlar linings designed to withstand TCC lockup at full load, be it on the dyno or at the strip.
Heck, one can even order, say, a SS3800 with such TCC lining ;)
The fact that most other converter manufacturers use the OEM paper type TCC will lead to TCC failure if locked up at full load.
Careful programming will allow one to lock the clutch at low engine speed in 2nd or 3rd gear for dyno runs. It's been done and gives good power readings on dynos. But as you state, it comes at a cost with with the stock TCC lining - TCC failure.
I very well understand the weaknesses of the lockup converters. That's why I bought Yank.

Well done, that’s fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guys I just bought a VX SS and man am I impressed, with the power and just seeing that 12's are possible with minor mods has inspired me immensely.....
Also It has a 6 speed , so I guess 12's may not be possible from an uncracked motor but then again who knows!!!
Whats the best time a 6 speed has done?
Any suggestions what the first mod should be?
Being as I just bought the car and have little spare cash at the moment, also I live in Adelaide can someone recommend a place to get a PCM edit a little later on.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards
Chris

That would have to be a decent exhaust system. see search threads
1 3/4 primary Pacemaker / Diffillipo's extractors, modified or high flow cats, and at least twin 2 1/2 cat back system with free flowing mufflers.

Thats awesome WA, things really have come a long way in a few short years with the LS1 in Oz.
The 60 foot ET at 2.1 sec is good, be nice if that could get lower though. The old fashioned rear susp and live axle on the F-bods seems to be great for launches and quick 60 ft ETs.

Hi,
Just reading through this thread, this question re unopened M6s and 12's intrigued me - looking at "The List" the fastest unopened non GTS (C4Bs are cheating!) I can see is AndyP's:
02. AndyP (Holden VX SS) 4D Sedan, est. 3785lb VIC
13.32 @ 106.8 mph, 2.186, M6, 3.46
Fastest MPH: 106.8 mph
Intersting that this was acheived with the standard diff ratio as well - damn impressive based on my experiences so far trying to launch the M6/3.46 combo on street tyres!
Cheers,
Beej

AndyP's was unedited too and he ran that a very long time ago before Edit was introduced.
Since then, Scud has dropped it down to 13.1, i dont think anyone else has gone quicker yet, although i think someone will do a 12 soon.

Unedited, unopened and 106mph??? Wow that was impressive then! With 3.46 diff, that trap speed indicates more power at the wheels than most of us have today even with edit! Even the MAFless guys!
Impressed......

There are many M6 's in the 12's now...
About 1 month after buying my SS I ran it down the quarter
in stock form, I mean dead stock still had the turtle shell cover, stock exhaust etc etc etc....
I ran 14.5 @99MPH
It's still dead stock bar a HSV CAI
Anyone else ran good times on a dead stock car?

It was great to see this car crack a 12
We spent many $$$$$ to get this time and the car was tuned several times to get the result and even then it still had some issues, but hey keep it at the top as Dean says because we are proud of the time it ran, 4 years on it seems funny that alot of cars at the plex still cant catch it.
The guy that bought the car never ever produced the same times again, so he sold it on as for where it is we will keep our ears open for you Dan.
Nowdays we spend much less to get the same result or better.

Only ever tuned once by me , and fairly cheaply when we were friends a long time ago.
Was and is pretty a easy formula that we still use
Diff gears
Tune
Exhaust
Intake system
Dont know what else you may have spent on the car
Would like to get a feature article on this and a couple of other cars from back in the day.

Hi Dan
In the day this car was an acheivement at the drags, and like we say were proud of it, some of the issues that the car had still go on today with cars that have had to be re-tuned.
Our costs I wont put up here but if you like I can dig up the invoices if you dont have copies so ppl can see exactly what it cost us to put this package together.
Seems like a bit of same ole same ole and the same players involved going on, but hey thats ok we are used to it even though it gets a bit boring.
Seems others (could be wrong) are trying to poke sticks about posts that are 4 years old by quoting post numbers but like we said all in good fun.
We pride ourselves in the fact that we have moved on.

Funny thing is I actually stands today as a good time,I know there are some freaky times out there but the few times I have been to the Drags there are many people who would love a 12.9 with those mods to do it 4 years age was a real achievement by all parties.

Hi Daz
Kudos to you, our thoughts exactly.
We also are serious about keeping our ear out for Dan to do his article, if there has been no changes since we owned the car perhaps we could give the specs in full to help out.
