hi all,

i received this dyno chart after doing a bit of engine work to the Monaro. VCM7 cam, full exhaust and OTR. Im trying to get the stall built to compliment the torque, but the sheet doesnt show max torque @ rpm.. can anyone tell what it is by reading a chart that only shows power, road speed and tractive effort?

You would have to put it in to a calculator to work it out - Well, work it back from TE, speed and the gearing that you have to establish an RPM.

But I would just pick something you feel comfortable with between 3200 and 6000!
I've got a 4500 Allfast and love it, wouldn't go any less.

Teach me to skim read before a coffee. I just looked at the torque down low being higher (stock stall flaring up some)

sorry. yes its auto, but this run was done with the 3.07 gears and 2800 stall, its now got 3.9s but im thinkin the stall isnt the right size

Hey, what cam and other engine mods buddy?
Also what is your intentions for use of the car, is it an every day city driver, a weekend cruiser or mainly just for the drag strip?

its a VCM7 cam, which is 232/234 .596" and 112LSA. Other usual mods, springs, retainers etc, aluminium OTR, pacemaker extractors, hi-flow cats, full twin 2.5" exhaust, 3.9 truetrac and a 2800 stall.

car is used once a month as a weekend cruiser and once drag season comes back i'll be hitting the strip quite regularly.

at the moment the stall just doesnt do it justice, its cutting in before the torque curve and takes a few seconds to build up momentum before slingshotting me up the road

or is it easier to put it back on a dyno and get them to setup the readout with rpm and torque curve only?

I reckon you want something from around 4,000 to 4,500rpm then.

Actually I have heard some people say that is is harder to accurately tune and see the low down torque when you have a hi-stall fitted
because it can get masked under the stall.

For the dyno chart junkies; would it be possibly to get an approximation of torque if we get the diff ratio, tyre diameter, and then used the power at speed?

eg. 385.9hp @ 230km\hr, 3.07 ratio (gearbox 1:1?), 245/35/19 (assumed) gives me 477nm without taking dyno correction into account. What is odd is it gives me a figure of 1019nm @ 60km/hr (1502rpm), is that right? Reversing the formula to get horsepower from rpm (1502rpm) and torque (1019nm) gives me 160.06kw (214.5hp) @ 60km/hr, which is about what the dyno sheet says.

Or am I way off track and this cannot be done?

edit: ah it already has a stall, which throws it all off again.

I used same cam and diff gears in my VY. I ran 4000 stall. Worked perfect and ran 11.8 all day with MTs at willowbank.

Cheers Paul

cheers GTS Paul and whitels1ss. definitely thinkin the 2800 is too small, gonna go for the 4000
