Hi Guys,

I really want to get a second PCM with an exact duplicate of my current tune, but with the rev limiter set to 3500rpm and speed set to say 60kph (My current tuner will do this free of charge...I just need to supply the PCM). That way, if I ever need to leave my car at a smash repairer I can swap over PCMs and have piece of mind. I would also tell the smash repairer in advance what I did... for safety reasons

Anyway, I would like to know the following:

1. I have a VY SS so can I assume that I can use any unlocked PCM from a VT II to VY II?
2. What is the going rate for a 2nd hand PCM? I used to see them for around the $100-$150 mark, however everyone seems to want more $$$ these days.
3. When I get the 2nd PCM, do I need to power it up every 2 years to keep certain components on the PCM alive? i.e. ensure the capacitors don't completely discharge etc
4. I read a guide on how to swap over PCMs...but do I need to disconnect the battery prior to doing the swapover?

Thanks guys.

Any unlocked PCM VT-VY. Dont need to power it up.

If your tuner uses efilive you can just run one pcm and put in a switch and run valet mode

Thanks heaps for the quick reply Jezza. I heard that you can do valet mode with efilive....although my car has been retuned with HP Tuners.

Do I need to disconnect the battery before swapping PCMs?

Find a tuner with EFI live then. If its a stock operating system they will be able to add valet for you.

Alternatively get a dual PROM board installed on your PCM. Essentially makes it two separate tunes.

Thanks for the reply Macca. Sam just retuned my car and I'm really happy with the tune...makes great power & torque and no bucking or weird idling issues. Also I don't really want to fork out more cash on yet another tune.

Who can I get to install the dual PROM board? Do you have any contacts?

How much would this cost? And how do you swap between tunes? A toggle switch??

Here you go mate.. Nice and local for you too. What will happen is Justin can install the board. Then you go back to Sam and he can load both tunes

Does HP Tuners have anything like the Autocal from EFILive? Once of the tunes on my Autocal is a valet mode, and it makes swapping easy.

Thanks Macca. I forgot all about Sideshow. He actually unlocked my PCM less than a year ago. I'll get in touch with him. Thanks again

It took me AGES to find this, apparently its the one you want (ending in 0411) for an LS1 (actually should be identical to the on you've got being a VY).

http://www.madtuner.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=24&category_id=44&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

With the exchange rate plus shipping (i combined it with other stuff using shipito) i think it worked out to be $170 landed at my door.

Cheers

Nice find. Now I have 2 options...just in case the other option is too expensive. Thanks bud

Ive just spoken to Justin from Ultimate conversion wiring. Once again, Justin was great to deal with....absolutely top bloke. He has convinced me to buy a 2nd hand PCM, since I can always resell it and get my money back. Also the double flash PCM is not really an economical solution, just for a valet mode. Sure if my car was a turbo monster that required 2 totally different tunes...then it would be totally worthwhile.

So now I'm looking on eBay and can get a PCM for about $140 US delivered. I've noticed in my search two part numbers:

12200411 stating it's for a 2001 to 2003 5.7L Corvette
12586243 stating it's for a 2004 5.7L Pontiac GTO

My car is a series 2004 VY SS S2 5.7L. Does anyone know the difference between the two PCMs above? Is the latter equivalent to the VZ 5.7L PCM that is different to the normal LS1 PCMs...ie VT II to VY II
