Quality Issues
My name is Mark xxxxx and have utilised both your MT DR 235x60x15 and 275x60x15 tyres since 2005 on a number of my vehicles. My present problem is the quality of the new tyres being supplied to me in Brisbane Australia. I have in the past also purchased ( Seconds ) when available ,and have had a great deal more success than my most recent purchase of Two 275x60x15 Drag Radials ( MT3754 ) . Of the two tyres purhased ,one was returned to the selling dealer for immedaite replacement due to an excess bulge in the tread. The tyre simply could not be balanced. The retailer ( xxxxxxx) supplied me with a new replacement tyre that is currently fitted to one new weld rim……..this replacement tyre also cannot be satisfactorily balanced due to yet another tread bulge problem limiting 1/4 mile speeds to 60mph .which makes me wonder just what are we really being offered here in Australia ?, I might add also that the two 235x60x15 tyres I purchased on the 6th August from same retailer , whilst one was fine the other was fit for the rubbish dump only
Given the AUS $300 per tyre ask ....*Thankyou to Rocket Industries Monopoly * ,I believe this is a valid question given the amount of Mickey Thompson tyres I have purchased over the years and this is most certainly not the 1st new MT DR tyre I have simply discarded having put it down to the luck of the draw .
Regards Mark XXXXXXX

Probably around a year ago someone started a thread about problems a few people had been experiencing with Micky Thompson ET Streets, from memory only with the new compound. I've tried searching but given the LS1 forum search only works on a minimum of 4 lettered words I've had no luck. I'm considering buying a second hand set and want to know what problems I should be looking for. I seem to recall that whoever started the thread noticed a problem with a new or near new tyre so had it replaced and the replacement had the same problem. :bawl:

didn't have any problems with my 275/17 ET Streets a couple of years ago. ive got a new set of 235/15's in the garage that i bought at the same time as my mate did and he has used his on the track and the the street with no issues. what size and what are the problems are you referring to?

I'm pretty sure the problems are only with the new reasonably recently released compound and I can't remember what size, possibly all. As for what the problems were that's the point of my thread. Trying to find out so I know what to look out for.

Awesome thanks awesome! :D Looks as if the problem should be reasonably obvious to the naked eye, especially if the tyres have already been fitted and hopefully balanced and used for a couple of runs??????
Wonder if Mark ever got a response? Would be very surprised if he did!!

you can't tell with the naked eye wonks, it's not exactly a bulge I don't think. only going from my experience of my recent tyre drama from a 'federal' tyre, it looked fine but put it on a balancer and you can tell straight away it's out of balance. the tread is heavier in one spot. therefore a vibration at a certain speed will be felt. however the mob I bought it off still tried to pack on the weights until I took it to someone else and they told me what was going on.

Ive never really had a problem with MT's. ive recently bought some new 265/40/18's and they balanced up fine. Havent raced with them yet though.

This is why I buy TOYO Tyres. Balance up EVERY time. Sometimes with no weights needed at all.

All good and well but a TOYO can't grip like my Mickey T's do. No problem balancing my ET streets either

hhhmmmmmmmm..... i was going to get some et streets in the next month or so. but i am sick of dodgy crap, with the premium prices paid in aus, you have the right to expect the best. i guess ill just keep looking. what are the other options for a street drag radial? in 15inch rim size.

Obviously the thread was merged together , as wonky started his own thread and I remember markone had this thread awhile back.

:yup: I'm looking at buying some used MTs and remembered that someone with some experience had had problems but couldn't remember who or what. Spent ages trying various searches unsuccessfully so started a new thread asking if anyone could remember the thread. awesome _vzss did  so my new thread was merged with the thread I was looking for, but in a manner which was confusing causing it to loop back to itself. :weirdo:

OFFTOPIC, but did you know you can search any site using google
In the Google search box use the following syntax site:http://www.ls1.com.au/forum search-phrase
Where search-phrase can be any search words you want, including less than 4 letters. Note the keyword site in-front of the site address
