hey guys my vx ss has 220k on it. I want a car with a lot more go so was thinking a cam n maybe heads. just worried about the high kms. will it be cheaper in the long run to sell the vx and buy something with lower ks and saving more to do that up, or keep the vx and spend the extra money it would cost me to buy a newer car on it

To do Heads / Cam on a car properly would amount to around $5500 or so - give or take. People have cammed high-mileage cars, but where yours is, the engine could probably do with a freshen up.

A brand new crate 6lt / 6.2lt engine would cost you around $8-10000 to have installed.

Trading your VX SS for something newer - there is a fair bit around, but trade-ins are not real flash - is an option, but depends entirely upon your personal circumstances.

You need to sit down, determine your finances, then desires and make a decision with all things considered.

cheers

Maybe a L98 from a wrecker would be an option?
Rip and replace.
Just throwing that out there as an idea :)

i recently cammed my 2003 CV8 which had 214,000kms on it. all those kms were stock kms. Ive gone VCM7, springs, locks etc, full exhaust, OTR, 2800 stall and have never had a drama with it yet, touch wood. Ive had it maybe 6 months, only done about 4000kms, but never leaked oil, knocked or ticked. If your car is regularly serviced it shouldnt be a drama. As others say get the compression tested and see how it is. Mine pushes out a healthy 386rwhp and pulls like a train

did you do heads aswell? I was thinking I might be better spending the money on clutch instead of heads.did you notice a big difference? I dont wana spend 5g+ and not have a big difference

didnt do heads. standard ones flow pretty well, and for the 5G i didnt think it was worth the 15hp difference. ask those who have done them and they may disagree, but thats my 2c worth.

did you notice a big difference after cam install? I want to be able to feel lots more power if I'm going to spend the money. would cam install be best bang for buck?
