I'll be starting a 15/6 FIFO roster soon and I'd like to know what I need to do to my car to make sure it goes well when on my days off.

Regards, Dan

I'd say next to nothing. Your only away for 15 days, that's not long. Only suggestion would be park it undercover and possibly a trickle charger if battery is getting tired. There are a few threads on here from memory regarding cars that get driven infrequently.

OK Thanks Hos. Been away a week on holidays - started the car this morning and it only just kicked over. Was thinking of installing a battery isolater.

An isolator won't stop all losses from the battery. How old is the car? Still on factory battery?

Just get a trickle charger and it will solve your probs

Modern cars have so many ancillaries running all the time for electronics and settings even though key is off.

Plus the Ve battery is in the boot and it has to run down a longer cable to get to it, so if it says that it may take only 1amp an hr to run it could be 2 as you only need a slight more resistance and it will draw more current ie cable length, bad connection etc

As said just get a trickle charged and you will solve the prob

I have an Optima Red top installed about 12 months ago. I park the car outside not in reach of a power point.

you park outside bonus , then get on of these , it'll do what you need , stick it to the inside of either window ,
run it to the battery or cig lighter , but make sure it's on when car is off .

Hey do these things work with the ignition locked? I am no expert on electronics, but AFAIK when the ignition is locked there is no
power from the cig lighter socket, so I don't understand how thet could feed the battery either?
I can see them as a good idea and I am sure they could work if the wires were just clipped onto the battery terminals but I can't
see them working from the cig lighter socket?

yeah , point , i did mention that , but i don't know with VE's , let alone if they have a cig lighter
or accs plug as they're known now , so they might be alive .

Burt ya batteries in ya boot , easy to run the wires thru .

and you can leave it on as the good ones have a diode to protect from reverse discharge .

I have one on my gator .

Hey, yeah, I know it is easy to clip the wires onto the battery, I was just wondering if they could work on the cig lighter / power socket with ignition locked?
I don't understand how they could work from there?

This is the way to go IMO,
Just run the wires through the firewall to the battery and leave the panel on the dash, does it have a blocking diode for night-time to stop discharge??
have to wonder if it is capable of overcharging the battery but if there is drain at night then the battery will need a charge up in the daytime anyway
If the battery is in the boot even better, use the rear shelf and run the wire through the seat
