View Full Version : 12 second M6, unopened motor

Has anyone got their M6 into the 12's, without cracking the donk open?

From what I can see, there are a couple of A4's that have made it (eg. Delco), but no M6's....

The closest I know of is Scud with a 13.1

It seems that with 300+fwkw, 3.9's and some sticky tyres, a 12 should be readily achieveable....

Anyone?:hmmm:

I think Al ran a 13.2 with his old SS ??

That's the closest i can think of offhand - i think that was well before edit came along though... ;)

13.32@106.8mph with stock everything except IFT, CAI, and zhorst.

As far as I know Scud's 13.1 is the best for an unopened M6......

Hi

I have acheived a best of 13.3 approximately 7 months ago in my vxii clubby m6 with a 60 foot time of 2.2 seconds. We knew that the car had more in it but we were plagued with gear stick problems which have been fixed, all I do now is rip the rubber/leather boot off (at least the car is still driveable)! My best acheived launch of 2.01 sec 60 foot was when my gear stick broke into second and could not complete the pass...we were on track for a very low 13 on that pass!

Since then I have installed a G & D Performance rampod air induction system which works wonders! I have also fitted 3.9 diff gears (Central Diffs) which really do get the bitch off the lights now and have the lsd performing better than new!!!

These two mods combined really make the motor and car feel much more angrier!:bounce: It is my intention to eventually at least acheive a pass of 12.99 in a fully street trim HSV with 18" wheels.

Keep in mind I have raised suspension for towing heavy boats and a 37kg (2.1 tonne) towbar fitted which all have a negative effect on racing, so a bolt on 12.99 pass should be acheivable for a dedicated quarter mile ls1 bolt on m6 such as a VT/VX SS with 17" rims. The SS should be able to also launch harder with 17" rims due to a slightly higher amount of sidewall tyre flex. So MODENA go and get a 12!.....I am trying to persuade you here!

Richard

Hey Richard... What was your mph on your 13.3 run?? And also, was this with or without a tune?

you may actually find the opposite ;)

Again, you may find (like some of us did) that the 3.9's actually make the launch all that much harder because of the lack of traction. It will be harder to get the power to the ground although the 18's might help a little.
Good luck though, but as many of us have found it will not be easy to run a sub 13.0sec in a street trim unopened M6

Golly if this is a goal, let me kick it. Who's got an absolute standard car?

I'll fix it and drive it into a 12 second 1/4 for free......... :)

Personally I don't think it can be done. You would need absolutely everything to be spot on. Weather, perfect launch, and an absolutely flawless run. I am talking about street tyres though. Not drag radials and the like. Best sixty foot for me was 2.09 and qtr was 13.59 at 107mph. I know I can run faster than that but god knows how many runs it would take.

I hope someone can do it.

Hi

I love this thread it is firing me up even more to get my 12.

To Andy P my 13.3 run was at 107mph, beleive it or not I have actually acheived much better launches with my 3.9's installed......I think that the proof is in the pudding....ask Krizto about my ripper launch I had the other night...I also think that AQICSS will tell you that my car is launching better now off the line than before, I always struggled to get good launches with 3.73 either to much wheelspin or bogging down, now I am perfecting them with 3.9's!

I am also launching much harder against a friends SS. With the 3.73 gears installed I was just getting into 4th over the 400m mark and probably in 4th for 1 second or so. Now with the 3.9's I am getting the little extra gain of power out of the 4th gear on the quarter mile. My cars best gears are 1st, 2nd and 4th....3rd is always my worst gear so I have gained immensely by this mod.

I beleive my 18" rims have a negative effect on launching at the track when compared to 17"s of an SS....am I wrong thinking this? Please someone correct me if I am wrong as I am still an ls1 newbie and like to learn. I beleive the more tyre wall height, the better the power transfer to the ground on take off?? Oh and thanks for wishing me luck getting my 12....I am going to need it!

To Plan B....I am sure that someone with a stock car will now approach you with this goal, probably before I reply to this thread!......I know I would if my car was still standard!

To Large....I really think it can be done.....And I hope I am the one to do it!

See how we go.

Richard

Hi Simon

Try G & D Performances clutch. I have given it over 15,000 k's of HARD driving including a wicked 300 or 400 metre standstill and it feels as good as new! I do not respect my clutch and are quite surprised how long it has lasted and how well it works!

To give you an idea I blew 5 high performances clutch in 12 months in my last car....this clutch has lasted me nearly 10 months.

I ran a 13.1 sec @ 106 mph with SAS CAI, Difi system, 3.9:1 gears
and tune in Feb this year. Car was showing 220 rwkw at the time.
I reckon a twelve would come no worries. Too late for me on this one but

My Exec M6 (3.46 gears) has so far run a 13.307@107.54Mph pass. Still unhappy with the launch (either too little or too much) although a best 60' time of 2.18 so far.

This is on Dunlop SP sport 3000A street tyres @ 25psi.

Have seen a 12.8 on the latest model gtech but it must have been a lot more downhill than it looked.

Hey PlanB, my car is absolutely standard but it's an auto :bawl:. I'm surprised no one has taken you up on the offer. I'd be happy just to get mine into the low 13's. One of these days I hope to visit Sam's Performance.... maybe next year.

That would be the car position! She will run a 12 very soon. She has been in training, has the new race suit and helmet and keeps telling me I cant drive and she will whip me and my best time. Look forward to the whipping though!!

I think the car thing has been spoken for. You'd be doing good to brew a coffee better than Justice also.

Worth a try though! :)

Yes it has a MAF, and another edit care of G@D. It pulled 241rwkw unopened, now were off to Calder Park on Friday to try to get it into the 12.4. Might be poss with a hot day in Melboune with a cold night to follow.

That will be awsome to hit 12.4 on street tyres. Slicks I would say it is possible but you will have your work cut out on street tyres.

Good luck
