stone chips

hi all,
i have a few stone chips on the bonnent of my car vx clubbie delft blue just wondering how to get rid of them without respraying or is that the only way?
Also i have a few swirl marks tht im having trouble with any ideas?

Ive had a read of the thread you sugested but cant find any thng about stone chips only swirle marks so the question remains on the stone chips

but its not a car care thread but more of a paint thread so i looked into that but no luck if you have anyway to deal with stone chips i would be greatly appreciated it looked every where but cant find anywhere about stone chips

If theres any chance it can be fixed without a respray(which i think is what you originally asked), then the guys at Car Care Products will be able to tell you, and help you out. Pics always help them a great deal too.

is it everytime some one on here ask a question or advise about a subject every one says look into this section or look its been brought up before, so what if its been brought up before the time it takes reading so much information that doesnt even correspond with what your even asking, everyone could answer the quiery or sponsers could answer any new question. im tiered of this happening when people could just answer the question if you cant answer the question leave it to some one that can.

A mate had some stone chips in his bonnet, he used touch up paint let it dry for a few days than used more to make it less noticeable, you can then wet sand it to make it nice and smooth with the paint work and then a quick buff. You could still see it there if it was pointed out but mostly a good alternative.

yeah tried this but the touch up paint i got from Autobahn was to dark even though it was the same colour its the metalic deft blue limited edition colour but i havent done the wet sand

Well the thread that is linked, is specifically for a SPONSOR who CAN help you with your question. No one said that the answer to your exact question is already posted in that thread. Its pretty clear that you are able to post in the thread with your own issue and the sponsor can help you in detail.

Mate i don't know if you have one of these in Brissy, but if you ring Preston Parts and give them the details off your build plate, they will mix up a small bottle of touch up for you and post it. The delft blue is not a limited edition, it is widely available. This will be an exact match to your car then you can go down the wet sanding path.

I didn't mean to offend :confused: , noone had replied before me so I thought you might have better luck posting in the Car Care Products thread as they are very helpful and experienced with this kind of thing.
I also thought 'post #16' in that thread might be helpful :

"Realistically the best way is to fill the scratch with touch up paint, allow it to settle, fill it again (few weeks later) and let it settle again and follow with wetsanding to even it out and then machine polish. Unfortunately there is no real other way minus respray to do this. Its not an easy job either way"

That was in reply to filling a deep scratch but I "imagine" the process would be somewhat similar (?).

Either way I wasn't trying to upset you...I could fully understand your frustration if I had simply said SEARCH, but I actually took the time to find the thread and then linked it as I thought it may be helpful.

you need to first clean the stone chip with wax n grease remover. build up the base coat and put some clear over it. lastly you will need to wet sand it back flat then machine polish out the sanding marks. you will still see where it was but it wont be too noticable. if you want a perfect finish, you will need it resprayed

you can use touch up paint, there is a video on youtube I think where a guy fixes the chips with touch up paint, lets it dry, uses a cut and polish to blend then adds a clear coat, does a very good job.

However considering the prep work, skill and time needed it may be best to just get a respray.

At least with a respray they can blend the paint. Maybe find a good painter, and see if members are keen for a group buy...always works out cheaper for a group.

that sounds great for a solid colour but it wont work with a metallic colour as any sanding/polishing will remove the colour around the metallic flecks and make them stand out more which will looks a different colour, not even close to matching. as for the spraying they can blend colours but the whole panel needs to be cleared so you may as well do the colour to the whole panel

There are techniques with metallic paint, below is a video on YouTube, but as I previously noted, you need to know what your doing and have the time to complete the job
