hey all, I'd just like to know who has towed a VE. where did you attached the tie down straps to the front? I've thought on the front crossmember just below the radiator, but as it'll be a long trip I don't want the possibility of the straps wearing through. so those who tow ve's please let me know. cheers

We tow a VP regularly and use car carrying tie down straps on each wheel. They work well and leave the suspension free to do its job.

As above use ratchet straps and put one around each wheel - best way to hold the vehicle nice and firm

Yep, when we towed my VE back from the drags, ratchet strap around each wheel did the trick nicely

thanks for the replies. any photos of this? I dont think this option will work for me as I don't have any place to tie it to the trailer as its full checker plate sheet.

Can you put the tie down strap inside a motorbike inner tube cut to suit the front frame or some heavy duty plastic hose with a split so the strap goes inside
If you want to go to the expense of chain and a shackle you can put the chain around the frame then hook the ratchet strap to the shackle

yeh I was thinking bout putting something to protect the strap just wasn't sure what yet. the inner tubes a good idea. just wondering what everyone else had done. I don't think I'll get a chain around the crossmember as there isn't much room because of the radiator. I might be able to lift it up slightly I'll have to double check

cheers for the link, however I personally wouldn't like my car strapped on like that, it just seems way to easy to come off due to bumps or hard acceleration/ braking the car could roll forward or back allowing it to slip off.

Ive always done it around the wheels like that and never had a problem. Even with a shitty old VP when we got into abit of a hairy situation. Also every time ive ever had my VX R8 towed(10-15 times...) every towie does it the same way too.

With one of those straps (like in the video that XUV posted) on each wheel that car is not going anywhere relative to the trailer. We use 4 but I reckon two straps on diagonally opposite corners would be safe enough.

fair enough then. thanks for the replies. to me it seems like it wouldn't be adequate enough. I wouldn't mind checking them out tho. where abouts can you buy the proper wheel ones like in the vid?

You might need to get some hooks welded to the trailer for them to attach to.

And leave the car in neutral whilst under tow.

thanks for the link. I'll have to see what I have to attach it to on the trailer. mods to the trailer are out of the question as it isn't my trailer
