Hi All,
Just wondering where to get (and what to look for) split engine covers for my VE Calais V (2008) L98 ?
I'm not sure what I'm after looks wise, I'm wanting to see what is available. Was thinking something like yellow covers though....
Forgive me if I'm not using the right name for them.

Many people use the VZ 6.0 litre covers and paint them to suit. I've seen some with just red on the lettering which look quite good. Mine are painted white over where they're normally silver. They're not cheap now (IIRC $200+ the pair) - were about half that but the original supplier went bust.

Any down side (side effects) to changing out the turtle shell cover? If not, why did GM bother putting the ugly things on there?

All up sides - GM do it as to many non car enthusiasts the engine bay looks "wrong" with everything uncovered. Ron SS I'm sure either did a test or found out the results of Holden engineering tests which found the turtle shells hold SFA extra heat in, so it's only a change for cosmetic reasons.

To me they look a bit plain but with a decent paint job they can come up looking quite good! A few people on here have used them, or very similar.

See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?101726 for a couple of ideas. Also do a search on 92068147 or 92068149 (Holden part numbers for the VZ 6.0 split covers) as I'm pretty sure in one of the threads there are pics of alternative covers like the eBay ones you mentioned above.
