Off the top of my head I can't remember any specific problems with HSVs apart from the normal early VE problems with clunking in the suspension but hopefully if that car did have them they were fixed under warranty.
However, the early autos were notoriously bad for flaring on 2-3 gear changes, especially first start after they'd been turned off for a while and just generally not knowing which gear they should be in, 95% of which can be fixed with a good A6 tune. However, make sure to check the pads and rotors as they can be very expensive to replace (in the thousands depending what you use and who does it) and also the shockers as MRC shocks I'm sure I've read threads quoting around $2k each to replace from a dealer and I know of someone who's had one fail at half that mileage (out of warranty). :bawl:
Given the potential expense in rectifying various HSV problems I'd strongly suggest getting the car to one of the sponsors here who specialises in these cars to give it a thorough check over. Might cost you $100 or so but could save you many, many times that. Also make sure to do a REVS check as there are a surprising number of repairable write offs for sale around the country, even from dealers.

The original transmission software had a bug affecting hill descent mode. It can be updated if not done already. Modules for rear indicators can blink fast in cold weather - there is a revised version to fix that. Harmonic balancers can be a bit dodgy and there is a newer version. The filler tube for the windscreen washer tank can crack and leak - once again there was a revised version to fix that. All this stuff and more is covered in a thread somewhere.

Ah, that reminds me - have seen a lot of posts relating to leaking tail lights in VE HSVs.

then your typical VE problems with glove box falling down randomly, batterys draining, unbalanced harmonic balancers, ticking engine at idle, popping out of first gear when taking off (manual) etc etc usual stuff most ve's do..
nice car tho and cheap enough now

At six years of age most, if not all, of the "known" issues should have already occured and been dealt with. I'd suggest the usual thorough checks applied to any used car of this age would be more important than just focussing on known issues.

Check under the front and rear left passengers side carpet, if it lifts away clean you have a good one. I have an '06 and about the same kms and as mentioned I'd suggest the known issues were dealt with long ago (providing the previous owner was diligent), I haven't had anything since (touch wood), actually yes, my trim on the drivers seat has broken again (quoted $160)...

Assuming the HSV trim is the same as a Holden trim last time I saw one replaced it cost around $65 (IIRC) and replacement takes 5 min max.
