IMO i would just get the GM one, comes with warrenty, and if anything goes wrong with it, you bought it from Australia, so easy to get sorted, buying it from US= pain in the ass imo
I'v no someone that bought a cheap knock off and the shifter came out in his hand while at the track.

fairly sure you need the specific shifter to suit Pontiac GTO.
I looked at the B&M ones, but i've read that they have a tendency to snap on at least 4 different forums when I googled them, which was enough to put me off. I also looked at the Hurst one, but I think it's the exact same thing as the B&M. Still think that the price of the Rip Shifter is a bit of a joke given what they sell them for in the US (and naturally you can't get them shipped back over!)
Mal Wood also do a short shifter for $300 or so locally.

You'd probably be after one to suit a 04-06 Pontiac GTO (export Monaro).

Ok i have also seen other ones for Firebirds etc which run a 5.7L just not sure if the box is the same

AFAIK, it's to do with the shifter positioning relative to the gearbox. GTO/Commodore shifters look different to F Body / Corvette ones (at least in pictures!) One of the more mechanically minded members might be able to help you out more.
