I was about to try and polish up my Redline ssv wheels but wondering what to use ? Are they clear coated ? I have just been cleaning with soap and mit but they are dulling off so I thought a metal polish but I think they may have a clear coating so I would have to use a paint polish. ??? Who has polished them and where just polished or did they have a clear coat ? Cheers

I'm pretty sure they have clear coat. Treat them as if they are paint.

just try polishing them 1st with paint quality polish. IF it works, then you're all good

I was just about to ask the same question! Mine are dulling a little now after just being washed normally, but havent tried any polishes on them, would be great if someone could confirm what they are!!!!

Gave them a quick go with some light polish last night and they appear to be clear coated. I am going to clean a bit more first as I was getting some black but I think it was just brake dust.

I have just done it again and still no black residue so I am confident they have a clear coating on them. I have sent an email to Holden to try and confirm anyway.

Holden could not confirm if the wheels have a clear coating , I am 99.9% sure they do from the polish test I did.

I had mine powder coated, I asked the powder coater if they had been clear coated and his answer was "NO".

No blasting just a quick clean and powder coating straight on.

Yeah emailed customer care and called them , they told me to consult my owners manual or contact dealer, funny thing is dealer has some how swapped my manual with a standard commodore manual belonging to another customer, and service and spares didn't know either, this iis the email from Holden.

Try metal polish and if the cloth turns black then they are bare polished alloy. If it cleans them but the cloth just gets dirty then they are clear coated.

If they are cleared then some strong wheel cleaner and a selection of brushes should do the trick or paint polish and they should be shiny again.

If they are bare polished alloy then you will need to remove the oxidization before polishing otherwise the finish will be cloudy and not like a mirror. A quick hit with acid wheel cleaner works well. If your not keen/confident with that then Californian custom aluminum deoxidizer is a good product to use before their purple polish

Sorry I missed this thread. I have sand blasted a set and I saw the clear coat on top when I pulled them out of the blaster to see hat bits I missed.

For the bloke above who got told to just paint over the top of them, take them back and make them repaint them if they start to turn crap. I'm surprised they didn't bubble in the oven...
