Above link is the great LS1intake test.
I was considering getting a ls6 intake on my vt2 ls1. The test is done on a cammed Ls1. So it would have more of a thirst for air and revs.
As you can see in the test no benefit at all under 5000rpm and only a maximum of 13hp between 5000-6400rpm, most of the time only about 5-6hp on 450hp.
My car don't rev more than 6400rpm so I'll ignore the benefits past 6400rpm.
Also on a stock cam I'd expect less of a benefit with ls6 manifold. So for about $500 is it worth it?
I spoke to a workshop that said its only worth anything once the car is cammed??

$500 is a bit rich. You could pick one up for about $50 if you had a look around.
I always see a 10rwkw gain from the upgrade I'd say the tune wasn't adjusted for that test $500 way two dear

Agree with jca. The improvement is there. $500 is ridiculous though. $200 or less is what they go for
Yeah I paid $200 about 5-6 years ago, so don't expect to pay mire than that. Unless you're including labour for a workshop to do it? If so, do it yourself, there's even a guide on www.ls1howto.com which is easy to follow. And yes imo definitely worth it, 15+ hp for $200 is very good value.

I agree, I think macca_779 is on the money.

can someone point me in direction of where i can get one for $50-200 as suggested above?
for the 6-13hp (at motor) that i would see after 5000rpm only i couldnt justify paying anymore

Use the search button.
Nutter is selling one at the moment. He wants $250. Offer him $200 and he should take it
Save your money. We changed my GTS over to the LS6 manifold and it gained nothing. Put the money towards something that will make a difference.

His is a VT. had the same manifold as every other VT

13hp = 9.69Kw... why would you bother opening the bonnet...

That's right. The VTII GTS300 still had the same intake manifold as any other garden variety VTII.
As you can see by my avatar, the LS6 manifold made way for something a little more exciting..... :yup:

It all adds up is why and is a cheap upgrade.
People spend way more on exhausts all the time for similar gains

Agree with the price mate $500 is way too much, best bet is to call a few wreckers or even look at the wrecks on ebay for a bargin,

Yes but most people do exhaust systems for the sound as much as anything else. If an aftermarket exhaust system sounded exactly the same as OEM, nobody would do it.
It's a bit like under driven balancers, 90% rainbow chasing.

i've seen 10rwkw out of the LS6 manifold on a cammed WH, worth it for $100 bucks or so that was paid for it IMO

Good point with the UPD. Although thats 100% rainbow chasing in that it does nothing and costs more than a used LS6 manifold. What can you do, some people have more money than brains.

The 13hp is for only 200rpm (5400rpm), most of the time from 5000-6400rpm it's only 6hp. (at the motor, maybe 4hp at wheels)
Also that is on a cammed car, I'd imagine gains on stock cam car even less

Well I did one of these mods a few years ago, I forget the increase I was told to expect by my tuner
(but I think it was a bit more than 6hp at the wheels,)
but it sounded worthwhile as a bang for buck mod at the time.
I remember being happy and thinking I could feel a little bit more power on the old "SOTP" (seat of the pants) dyno.
Here is another thread for you to read with more information and views.

I bought a ls6 manifold to be fitted next sat.
Few questions..
1. I've read that the bottom of the manifold needs to be cleaned up a little. In particular the fins need to be cut away.
2. I also have injectors. Should I keep the stock injectors or installs the ls6 injectors. 26lb vs 28lb.
Im ok to get tune touched up but is it worthwhile to change injectors at this power level 220-230rwkw?? Should I just chuck manifold on with stock injectors.
Car is getting done at oztrack this sat.

1) Only if you are keeping the standard VT coolant/vapor tubes. If you are going to VX+ style no trimming is required. If you do have to trim, be very careful.
2) Change the injectors if you are going to get the tune touched up. Will be slightly rich if you change the injectors and don't fix the IFR table in the tune.
I lost interest when you said Oztrack...

2 ways to do it.
Either cut down the ribs on the LS6 manifold. Or buy the VX+ coolant line and blanks.
There is a little bit of extra overhead with the 28's. If you have them you might as well fit them. Its only 2lb bigger so it will run fine if you fit them straight up. Fuel trims will take out the extra no problem at all if still enabled. But obviously ideally you'll want to rescale the injector flow rate accordingly in the tune.
Good luck.

Update,
Decided to use new manifold gaskets. Compared new and old. Definitely need new ones, in some areas gaskets were completely flat. Compared my gaskets also and they were even more flat. New gaskets almost had 5mm more thickness.
Fitted ls6 manifold and 28lb injectors. First impression was hmmm nothing different. No difference. Drove to get retune. Leaned it up a bit and noticed the fuel trim was taking out as much as it could. A few little tweaks here and there and the car now drives fantastic.
Bumdyno says car feels stronger. Despite the moderate gains in test in post 1, car feels better.
But car absolutely reaked of petrol whilst driving. I thought it may have been due to changing over fuel rails maybe some spillage or my old manifold in the boot smelt of fuel. Fuel smell seems to have faded a bit. Checked out fuel rails, only one area where fuel is attached and no leak?? Must have been spillage.
I'm fitting 3.46 gears on Monday so will see how it goes with them too. Already got it tuned for the gears. So now I'm driving 100 and I'm doing 110!!! Gotta be careful not to get booked.
