View Full Version : Ideas on where to mount coil packs - LS1 VN

Hey guys, while my car is broken, I want to move my coil packs. I have been meaning to get them off the rocker covers for a while (ugly, especially since two of mine are stacked up) and it will make me feel like I've actually achieved something while it's down, instead of just fixing broken stuff.

I'm after a few ideas from the floor so I can get my head around pros/cons of a few different mounting locations.

Already have a set of these (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CBM-11011-P-Plain-LS1-LS6-coil-relocation-bracket-valve-cover-side-mount-/290773642401?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b375aca1) in black, not sure if I will use them but they are a neat option for blocking them all together somewhere out of the way.

Ideas I'm toying with at the moment:

on the flat vertical at the back of each strut tower

somewhere inside the cabin, running leads through firewall, (I'm sure I heard of this being done before although I can't see how)

ASSASSIN spec, inside/underneath the engine bay rails, with leads coming up through grommets in the rails

I don't know really, leaning towards option 1 but don't want to move them, do all the wiring and leads and then realise i hate it :p

Open to the floor!!

I had a look at the brackets I have, they get everything nice and compact but fitting them where I wanted to won't be as straightforward as I hoped.

This is what I was thinking

Unfortunately underneath there is the main engine harness which gets in the way of putting any leads on..

Now I could certainly move it, I'm just not sure where the best spot for it would be, considering I don't even have the ECU permanently mounted yet because that doesn't have a 'spot' yet either. Suggestions welcome. I haven't actually seen how anyone else has mounted their ECUs in this conversion either.

Driver's side is a similar story, will be some shifting stuff around required, with the throttle cable getting in the way a bit as well..

I could probaly make them fit, but only just, and that corner of the bay already pisses me off with its cluttered appearance.

Any issues with LS1s with huuuge long leads?

Can't imagine why but I have read they don't like them much?

I just think they look really messy where they are, and I'd rather draw focus to something other than the ignition system - the motor itself. :)
