I think many of the members on here and others in Aus will be hopinh this comes true, BUT...a few years to wait after its release I would be thinking it wont happen, hopefully though I'm proved wrong!

quote fro the article:

And as for money? GM hasn’t revealed pricing of the new car, but said it would be in the range of the current Corvette, which retails at $50,000 USD for the base model. Expect to pay at least double that in Australia.

lol wtf.. they're even telling us they are going to rip us off.

Of course, we give them monaro & VE for a song and we pay through the nose in return.... Bit sad when the dollar is so strong and if they are going to right hook them factory and send them here wouldn't cost 50k.

Yes agree our $$ is worth more, they would be importing in bulk first up, it is GM with buying power so transport costs would NOT be the same as one offs etc. our cars sold for less over there than here so return the favor.. if were $60K here would sell like hotcakes..

But it is Australia, everything here the prices are double for no real reason on imports of all kinds.. look at GM spare parts we can import them at 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of Holden prices for the exact same part.

looks like hopes were given for no reason

The second in charge of General Motors, Tim Lee, who is the head of the company’s international operations, hit out at reports of a right-hand-drive Corvette for Australia, exclusively revealed by News Limited yesterday.

He told reporters at the Detroit motor show overnight: “I have no idea what [General Motors CEO Dan Akerson] said but we have no plan to put a right-hand-drive under that bonnet. The Corvette is a Chevrolet, it’s not a Holden, it never will be, next question.”

im sorry.... but :spew:

its a nice looking car but looks like its a miss match of all sorts of things.

I mean wheres the iconic round tailights. Looks more like a Camaro rear end.

Then perhaps you'll have corvette owners putting Holden badges on their cars.... Lol

I always liked the idea of the Corvette, but they've taken it too far now.

I really liked the previous model before the one we have now.

GMs International Operation guy doesn't sound at all as confident about that...

Yes, it sounds like the CEO got a bit too enthusiastic in talking to the journos.

If the Corvette was to be produced in RHD and exported to Australia then below I have outlined a guide to what it might theoretically be priced at, based on the Corvette having a price tag of US$50K.

BMW Z4 sDrive2.0i 2.0L turbo man: US price: USD$47,350 MSRP, Oz price: AUD$82,500
BMW Z4 sDrive3.5i 3.0L turbo man: US price: USD$55,150 MSRP, Oz price: AUD$107,500
Porsche Boxster 2.7L man: US price USD$49,500 MSRP, Oz price: AUD$107,000
Porsche Boxster S 3.4L man: US price: USD$60,900 MSRP, Oz price: AUD$133,300

Using the above as a rough guide a Corvette would sell for say $90K-$110K if it was USD$50K in the US.

BMW certainly seem to have a sharper pencil in Australia, the Z4 3.0t is the same price here as the base Boxster yet in the US the Z4 is 10% dearer.

Sources for above data are Oz prices: Wheels and US prices: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Porsche_Boxster/prices/ and http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/BMW_Z4/2013/prices/

Given the low volume/ engineering involved/ market positioning they would be 160K plus anyway.

Australia will have to wait for private RHD conversions as normal.

yep the back is all wrong. it looks 'newer' but not better than the C6.

Unlike certain euro overpriced dreamboats (are ferrari's/lambo's even real? conspiracy imo :) )
