Finally, and only about 7 weeks before the first round a TV deal has been done with Ch 7.
The deal is only for 2 years, and is believed to be at a "discounted" rate to what was previously the go.
Foxtel, Pay TV etc has yet to be negotiated.
Cheers, Pickles.

If Speed's coverage is the same as last year i think it's pretty poor, same old again.

The same as the NRL deal, absolutley no change for viewer at all, maybe more ad's and thats about it!
The "business" be it Supercars, NRL etc dont care what the end viewer is getting, they only care about what is going in their backpocket.

I'm just thankful that we have the new digital channels.
Years gone by, if 7 had the rights to both the footy & v8s they wouldn't have televised the supercars till later at night.
At least now they put it on 7 mate if it clashes with the footy!

I was thinking the same thing, back in the bad old days, sometimes we got 2 hour highlights at 11.30 at night

Yeah bloody oath!
You can't really complain about the coverage nowadays when we get to see full qualifying & races - even if they are delayed sometimes.
Heck, channel 7 have only just started showing footy live so we really have been getting a pretty sweet deal for years now!

Are we all seriously happy with a delayed telecast these days? to me its BS this day in age!
I want it now! lol, not after it has finished!
If I can watch MotoGP, F1, NASCAR, IndyCar and lawn bowls live from halfway around the world why can I not watch something here live!?
There is more than enough channels to show it and two games of footy live! Its just a programming choice from the provider, and to me, a very poor one!

Can't agree there mate.
You obviously aren't one of the "older" members on here...who can remember the "rubbish" we had to put up with in the old days. Mate, how would you like an over THREE HOUR interruption to the Bathurst telecast from 12.00 to 3.00, just so Jack Dyer, Ron casey & co could talk about the footy...With stuff like that,ya can REALLY complain....and we did....but it made no difference.....same thing with the Aussie touring car events.....the telecasts were nowhere near as "broad" as they are now.
The other events you mention are "World Wide" events on a massively larger scale & audience than Aussie Supercars, which although I do not like to admit, are not a high rating item......they are to me.....but to the overall viewing audience, they are not high on the list......and that's what it's all about.....RATINGS.
You may also be aware that NONE of the other channels were seriously interested.....AFL, Horse Racing, Cricket all took priority, combined with the fact that other channels were either not interested, had other priorities, or didn't have the budget.......Ch 7 were really the only channel that were seriously interested....
So yes, I do well remember the "old days", & whilst we can always want "more", in the circumstances, I'm happy to watch V8 Supercars as televised by Ch 7.....and, to be honest, it would be of no consequence if I wasn't, because as was discovered during the "bidding period", there is no other alternative.
Roll on Clipsal I say....it's gonna be an interesting year.
Cheers, Pickles.

I gotta say that I would be pi$$ed about a 3 hour break in Bathurst! I think the coverage in 2012 was pretty good..

Pickles, when was that? It must have been in the seventies?
I was hoping for an AFL type deal, live on a FTA channel and also live on Speed, ad free in HD including qualifying.

No worries.
Yes, for sure, it was a long time ago, but whilst I'm a MAD KEEN fan of Aussie motorsport, no matter what, the fact is, that OTHER forms of sport, & really, other programs, are more popular than V8 Supercars.....it's all about RATINGS & the revenue dollar.........BUT NOT FOR ME......I don't care about that sort of stuff......I just wanna see it.....as it happens.....and until someone tells me otherwise, apart from travelling to the relevant circuit, this is the best (only) way to do it.
So, I say, well done V8 Supercars AND Ch 7,.....Thank you, ......I'm gonna enjoy 2013.
Cheers, Pickles.

Maybe 7 can screen a few more races in HD not just 3 races like last year!

Agreed Pickles!!
How quick many are to forget that until very recently we only had 4 fta channels!
Heck, I remember back in the days of in the country we only had 2 tv channels!!
If you wanted to watch the touring cars you only had midnight highlights packages & a small snippet on the news.
Other than that you had to wait for Bathurst to roll around for your yearly dose of live V8s.
So yeah, I do think that having to watch usually only the first race of the weekend delayed but getting to see the whole race weekend plus more in its entirety is a pretty sweet deal - especially given the audience for V8 supercars is insignificant on the grand scheme of things compare to other sports.

Yeah that would be awesome! The ones I caught this year just did the sport so much justice, especially the livaries etc!!
