Saw a post someone put up on wether catch cans work or not so i thought i would post my results.

I have a 2010 VE SSV ute, M6, OTR, Full twin 3" Difilippo exhaust including headers and tune. I use an Elite catch can. Ute has gone 41,000 kms.

Ever since i put it on it has caught alot of oil. I check it every couple of weeks and empty around half a can. I decided to put a catch can on after i installed the OTR and saw that oil had pooled in the throttle body.

I wouldn't say i drive hard all the time, but still give it heaps every now and then. Driving is around town and half hour trips to work daily. I used to work away and get hwy kms on it aswell.

The results were taken on a recent trip from Traralgon to Melbourne and back, about 165km one way. Fresh tank of fuel, empty catch can, trip meter and consumption reset.

That looks like a lot of oil in a very short distance

Might me useful to also put what grade oil you use.

I find about 5mm of oil in the bottom of my catch can every 2000km.

I might conduct a similar test as I am doing a long distance cruise in Feb so it will be interesting how an LS2 compared.

Either way, elite catch cans are awesome. :p

Going by this, the OP's catch can would be filling itself up after only a few weeks driving.
Something does not sound right here, I have never heard of them picking up that much oil,
perhaps there is something else worn or wrong with the engine or fitting of the can?

I fitted one of the Elite catchcans to my LS2 a few years ago and I change my oil and filter every 5k which is around 8-9months and my can usually has about10-15mm deep of oil in it at each change.
When I fitted it I too noticed pools of oil inside the LS2 manifold,( has lots of sections for oil to sit in)cleaned it out then, but the last time I checked inside the manifold the bottom was a little shiney with oil but no pools so guess the catchcan is working.

Seems like a lot of oil you must have a lot of vaccum at idle and when backing off maybe need to restrict that.

I'm going to read up on these as I have no idea what they do.
