Hey,

Wondering if anyone in Melbourne has a "bridge" type bearing puller for removing the rear wheel bearings on a VX Commodore?

Ive found a picture of someones home made tool so you can see what it needs to do...

From what ive read, the bearing dimensions are 37mm inside, 74mm outside, 45mm height.

Happy to shout a slab to borrow the tool for a few hours...

Cheers, Errol.

Errol,

Thinking out loud, going to an engineering place would they have something they could either whip up or have in place?

Assuming you do not have anyway else that can help here?

That "special" puller in your pic is no more than 2 bits of key steel, a clamp from a milling machine with some random nuts, packers and a threaded rod. Combine all that with a rattle gun and your bearing will be out in about 15 seconds.

Yep reckon you could whip similar with a scrap of either Gal pipe or boiler tube, a small piece of booker rod & good bit of angle & your done.
Remember your local scrapyard or recyclers are your friend!

Thanks for the reply guys....

Well i tried without much luck over the weekend. Managed to snap a couple of 12mm high tensile (12.9) bolts trying to pull those bloody things out. Decided to pull out the control arms and will find someone to take it to. They'll probably need to heat it up with a blow torch or use a press. Ill also get them to fit the new bearings to make my life easier.

In hindsight I'm not sure it was worth trying to change them... bit of a prick of a job.

Can anyone recommend someone in South East Melbourne to do the change over and a rough guess on what it should cost?

Cheers, Errol.

Maybe that or soak it in a drum of petrol or dieso overnight!
