Good on you LSONE! There's nothing too difficult in setting up a cruise as long as you are organised and have decent maps and destination points so even if people get separated/lost as will invariably happen they know where to head for to meet up for lunch or photo point or whatever.

The starting meet point shouldn't be too far out of the city depending on where you're heading. We've had a couple of cruises head off north east from Ferntree Gully but that's about as far out as you'd want to have a meet point else it means guys from the other side of the city have to go a fair way before they even start.

Meet point needs to have plenty of parking for the maximum number of cars you could possibly expect and should be on on very close to a major arterial so people can find it and get to it easily. It should also have good egress because you don't want people split up right at the beginning by traffic lights, especially if they are on a long cycle or there are several sets of lights close together. Nothing worse than everybody becoming separated right near the beginning. Try to plan for a quick get together point somewhere with lots of space to pull up off the road once you're out of suburbia just to group everybody together again. No need even for people to get out of their cars at this point because that introduces its own potential extra holdups.

All things considered IMO these days the best meet points are the big multipurpose servos with Maccas/KFC/coffee places on freeways because people can get coffee, food, fill up with petrol, go to good clean toilets etc and head off with no traffic lights to break people up.

Probably not really any point asking for numbers yet, even potentials, as many people won't commit to anything until they know at least which direction it's heading and how far you intend going. Also no way many people, including myself, will post their rego on an open forum, which is why many car pics are published with number plates blanked out.

Thank heaps Wonky, Ill take your info on board and begin to plan something..... Seems you have done it before or that the very least have been involved in organizing something like this...... Good comment about the rego plate..... Before I officially post the details would you mind me sharing my plan/ideas with you?

Yeah, no probs. I organised last year's Movember cruise down here (different forum) and over the years my wife and I (to a lesser extent) have organised various pony club and adult riding club events of various kinds so have a bit of an idea what's involved in organising larger events, plus I once organised a walkathon for 500+ students and about 60 teachers which all went smoothly. :) It basically all comes down to planning and organisation. Facebook chat is probably the easiest method for communication, so if you're on FB PM me your details when you're ready.
