so few things playin up on the ute vyss03

1.) after having the engine warning light come on after wrongly putting E10 in ute (only thing servo had and i was dead empty ) i replaced the 02 sensors and had engine warning light code removed so all was good, also the oil was pretty low at this time and i was told that couldve set it off also , so anyway thought all was fixed this was about a month ago, then i left car idling for mayb 5 mins or so other day and bang engine light comes back on, not happy !!! no bad fuel this time , new 02 sensors and oil is where it should be .

this leads to

2.) the steering controls, also for a while now the steering volume/mute controls are doing the opposite ,so up goes down and down goes up and mute does either of those as well and when i turn car off i have to manually turn radio off too as if i dont it stays on and bye bye battery .

im guessing ive got an electrical fault somewhere that keeps the radio on and buggering up the steering controls and keeps throwing an engine warnning light when car idles for a while ?

any ideas as to what it could be fellas ??

i wanna get it sorted sooner rather than later and not go wasting money on several different things to find the one solution :)

cheers

Hi,

Not sure about VY - however on my VE I had the same drama in regards to the steering wheel controls for volume and all other controls.

Turned out to be a plastic ring that sits on the steering column which makes contact between the buttons and the harness while the steering wheel can turn around.

part cost about $80 I think and labour to fit was included in bigger job so no idea.

Def not electrical fault for mine (I originally thought it was the buttons that were stuffed) but ended up being the steering column part.

Hope helps a bit

Is that what they call a clock-spring?

Think I need one of them in my WH, as steering wheel controls only work occassionally, and if the car is left out of the garage on a cold night I get the airbag light when I start it the next morning, but if I drive it 200 metres which involves a left and then right angle turn, then turn it off and on again, the airbags are then fine. Not sure if it is a condensation issue or if that part you refer to is stuffed.

If the oil press sender is leaking or an original one that would most likely be the 1st port of call!
A scan of the OS will tell all!
Good luck with it.
