Anyone else sit up for the 3am unveiling?
MS are certainly building on their dominance of this generation - 300000 servers running XBL is just something that no-one else can match - integrated TV noses it at Google and Apple.
It is going to be a fun Christmas for sure.

Definitely interesting but I've always preferred a PC. I'm looking forward to the hacks from the new Kinect, apparently it's sensitive enough to detect your heartbeat
Time to buy some shares in Kleenex ;)

It's not very visually appealing, looks like a 1980's VCR

Reading up on most of the information available and it looks very much like a Media PC. I'd say they're scrambling to get it out before Valve's Steambox picks up steam (pardon the pun...). Judging from the "8-core CPU" spec, I'm assuming it'll be an AMD chipset and graphics card.
That being said, while I wouldn't be interested in the console itself (since it'll quite literally be a PC in a nice case with some special software, which I can already build) I'm looking forward to the big players moving to x86 so games between PC/Xbox/PS4 will begin to become more universal.
I'll also be keen to see how hackable it is and if it's possible to rip the OS of it and get it onto a regular PC. Dual-booting a full-fledged PC with Win7/8 and XboxOS (or whatever it'll be called) would be pretty cool. Similarly, looking at what 3rd party software you could get onto the console (XBMC etc).

$899 is a placeholder, same as they do for many items. $10 will get you on the preorder, and the balance will be adjusted.

Steambox .. All vapour.
And yes, an all AMD architecture with a Radeon card. Sure is not the prettiest looking console, looks more PVR.

The locking games down to accounts apparently is going to be endorsed by Sony PS4 as well.
So appears it will be across the board.

Currently steam is the biggest in this market of games locked to accounts. But with the Xbox hardware being essentially a PC, I wonder if the games will become the same (e.g. can install Xbox games on PC or the other way around). Then you have a problem of whether you activate on steam or on Xbox. That said, I get the feeling the games will still be kept separate, why sell 1 game when you can sell it twice for people with 2 systems? But the idea of shared games between PCs and Xbox is an awesome one for sure.

Steambox as a physical console is vapour (mostly confusion generated by Xi3 and their "Piston" which is not the actual steambox). I suspect that's a mis-understanding of what it is though. Steambox was more supposed to be a "spec-sheet" defining what a steambox could be made of. Similar to how Intel have defined "ultra-books" and such. Valve are part way there with the Big Picture UI (which looks great) but haven't dealt with the full integration issue. You can't boot up directly to it, it has minimal other functionality outside of steam such as movie/music playing.
On my media/gaming PC in the lounge I use XBMC with some modifications for controllers as a frontend to everything (movies/music/games/emulators) and it's awesome. I'd love to use the Steam UI as it has some clever stuff in it, but it's just not there yet.

I have a PS3 now and I use it more for streaming video than anything else these days. I run a Play TV too so it really is my media hub. When it comes to choose between PS4 and XBOX 1 I'm really not to sure which way I'll go. I think the XBOX might be in my future though.

I asked the question of MS awhile ago as to whether the "buy on phone, play on PC and Xbox model was coming" ... seeing the convergence of the Phone/PC/Xbox into a unified kernel of Windows 8, makes this seem possible in this generation (perhaps not in the initial config, but after a refresh or two).

I'm sure if it were to be made available, it would only be through the MS locked down App Store, not steam etc.

So the launch in AU has been narrowed to November 2013. I have pre-ordered mine through Microsoft to be delivered on launch day.
Only $599 for a brand new console is pretty damn good. Let's see, at $799 when the 360 launched it sold out (and had no Kinect), I can only imagine what this will do. Better games, better tech, same XBL quality.

Xbox one has me intrigued. Never been big on video games but like the idea of controlling everything through this one unit and still having the option to play a game when wanted.
Going to look into them a bit more seriously I think

i found it really amusing that ps4 will cost less that xbox when hisstorically its the other way around, but then again sony seemed to have streamlined production by making a region free console thus bringing the costs down considerably. I've never bought a launch console and never will since they always seem to sort the bugs out a while afterwards.

All the JB prices are just placeholders .. remember with the Xbox One, the games are published online for sale at the same time so you will be able to buy the 59.95 games direct from the Xbox marketplace ( at least this is how it was reported at E3 )

It would be nice if they price match the Marketplace - somehow, I think they will stick to only price matching the local stores.

JB have it online for $88 so i guess they are all the same. JB is closer & more convenient to where I live than EB but I have always dealt with EB so I guess it's like apples and Oranges.
