Hey guys,
Firstly I have searched but haven't found an answer to my exact question.
I have just bought a vx ss and the 100000km service is due, the car is completely standard. I don't want platinum plugs so after a little digging I bought a set of NGK TR6 plugs. After more digging on plug gaps I found a few people that the tr6 plug is a cold plug and also couldn't find a gap for a standard engine.
So my question is, can I use the tr6 in my car (which is completely standard) without any problems? And what should they be gapped to.
Note: I do plan on an intake and exhaust system in the next few months.

this reminds me, my cheap $6 spark plugs have been in for 4 years! better take them out and have a look :)

Just buy a set of AC Delco Iridium plugs from eBay IMO, think they are around 100 a set and should last you up to another 100k.

Id rather change them every 10 to 15k and have piece of mind that i have fresh plugs in there. Especially on a car that im modifying.

Yeah problem in leaving them in too long is the steel grows in the plug hole & can be nasty to get em out!
Have seen a few cases where the entire thread strips out when removing. I like to take ours out once a year for a check & clean.

Must admit, I like a new set after 20000 .. Just peace of mind, if nothing else.

That's why you lube them prior to install

So back to my question, will they be fine for my engine and at the standard 0.9 gap???

well if you're modifying you're not needing plugs for a STANDARD LS1 are you? ;)
FWIW I use NGK TR6, changed after 20k for preventative maintenance, plugs looked fine like they could have stayed in a bit longer tbh.

I thought standard gap was around 1.5mm ,maybe i'm wrong.

My VX SS has just recently had its first plug change only just clocked over 80,000 km, the workshop I use work on a lot of LS powered cars and they recommended
I use the NGK BPR6EF, which I think is the same as the TR6 but not pre-gapped as per the TR6 plugs, however the mechanic did say that they gapped the NGK BPR6EF
to .8mm or .9mm can't remember exactly, they have been in my stock standard VX SS for around 2000 km and the car runs great. The main reason I went the
NGK BPR6EF was that on that service I had a lot of work done, coolant, brake fluid etc and was trying to keep the cost down a bit.

Ok cool. The tr6 plugs are gapped 0.9 standard. So ill just throw them in as they are.

Lps2 mate ;-)
All well & good but will it perform it's life within combustion chamber temps??

Lps2 is designed for high temp high load parts including valves etc etc

No, your right. That is the gap recommended by GM for the LS1. Some people just running smaller gaps. You will find that the gap will get a little bigger over time as well.

Early model ls1's aka out vt II factory gaps were around the 1.1mm later models they changed the gaps to 1.5

You got NGK plugs, in your digging did you check the NGK website itself? They say for VX, TR5 with 1.5mm.
If you get the PZTR5A-15 as per their site, the "15" at the end means gaped to 1.5mm so they are ready to go.

If left stock run stock plugs/gap
If you plan on producing alot more internal combustion temps by tinkering with exhausts and that, a colder copper plug like the NGK BPR6EF (v groved) or NGK BPR6EFS (standard flat) electrode. If you want to regap, i found opening smaller gapped plugs are better than closing a larger gapped plug due to the electrode aligning up better. Ive done both on mine and found that the 1.3 mm ones closed down was arcing on the edges of the electrode
Im currently using the NGK BPR6EF-9 opened up to 40 thou (1mm)
