Hi, son just got one on these in from the states, 1 owner, original condition only 65,000 miles with log books etc. Inside looks like its still new. Has plans for it.

Went to get a blue slip they said must have 3 point front seat belts, only has lap belts original. Bench seats front that fold on the sides for entry, pillerless sides windows.

How can you fit 3 point into a car like this?

Anyone know how these can be fitted, searching around on the net doesn't seem to find much on this.

I am pretty sure the cut off date for 3 point seat belts is 1969......Go back and tell them this is a 1965 model and they never had provision for a 3 point seat belt.

^^^^...Also forget to mention, If the imported vehicle is original and not modified in any way , you will only need the standard lap belts as fitted .

Once the vehicle has been modified from standard, that is when the engineers get nervous and start asking for lap sash seat belts etc, because the vehicle has been modified and falls into another category, for registration purposes.

IF you dont have any luck with them, try elsewhere, as it is has been done many times recently....cheers

29 Seatbelts for cars registered between 1 January 1965 and 1 January 1969
Every car and motor car derivative first registered on or after 1 January 1965 and before 1 January 1969 must be equipped for each front seat position that is adjacent to the side of the vehicle with a seatbelt that:
(a) has been installed in accordance with instructions issued by the manufacturer of the seatbelt, and
(b) at the time of its installation has not previously been installed and used in a motor vehicle, and
(c) is of:
(i) a type referred to in Australian Standard AS E35/BWG–1966 Drawings for bollard type webbing grips for testing car seat belt webbing as a Combination Belt (High) and has been manufactured in accordance with that Standard, or
(ii) some other type approved by the Authority.

Dunno seem the rule may have changed recently hard to find a specific NSW rule on imports, it was prior to 1969 but changed to jan 1965 has to comply to our regulations

That's odd my 67 mustang only ever had lap belts in the front, never had any roadworthy or rego problems. But I live in vic

If they make you do it, maybe something like in the old Monaro and Torana coupes would be ok like in this pic (http://au.images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A2oKiath9qNRFToAzjAN5gt.;_ylu=X3oDMTBlMT Q4cGxyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1n?back=http%3A%2F%2Fau.im ages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dht%2 Bmonaro%2Binterior%26n%3D30%26ei%3Dutf-8%26y%3DSearch%26fr%3Dyfp-t-501%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D143&w=800&h=600&imgurl=classicridz.com.au%2Fwp-content%2Fgallery%2Fscotts-monaro-interior%2Fscotts_monaro_interior_006.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fclassicridz.com.au%2Fshowcase%2F street-machines%2Ffinished-projects%2Fscotts-monaro%2Fscotts-monaro-interior&size=35.5KB&name=...+Finished+Projects+%3E+Scott%E2%80%99s+HG+ %3Cb%3EMonaro+%3C%2Fb%3E%3E+Scott%E2%80%99s+%3Cb%3 EMonaro+Interior%3C%2Fb%3E&p=ht+monaro+interior&oid=68b4207f6991fb35e07950309d8246b3&fr2=&fr=yfp-t-501&tt=...+Finished+Projects+%3E+Scott%E2%80%99s+HG+%3 Cb%3EMonaro+%3C%2Fb%3E%3E+Scott%E2%80%99s+%3Cb%3EM onaro+Interior%3C%2Fb%3E&b=121&ni=220&no=143&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=139i5aq0i&sigb=13ro7ttg5&sigi=12r93akv5&.crumb=6spXRWZ9xzA&fr=yfp-t-501).

AS crazy as it may seem, some engineers insist that you do it and some don`t.........Maybe just trying to cover their arse...........Just find one that is happy do it as I have seen it done many times recently in NSW.........................In Victoria , it is a different set of rules again and you definately do not require lap sash on a `65 Model car because I have done it recently.
