As per title - looking to purchase and want to keep for a long time (10 years?) so I don't want a faded car after five years like some of the early Redhot cars seem to be. Haven't seen any faded red VEs so presumably the early issues were soled, but can anyoe confirm? (I'll be regularly waxing etc but just want to be sure - otherwise I'll pick a metallic colour even if it costs me more).

Yes, they are clear coated. Even my 03 Monaro was clear coated (except for the factory option boot spoiler that I removed from it).

Great, thanks.
vy series 2 the reds started to get cob paint, before that it was single stage paint
The issue of Redhot paint fade is more to do with how the car is garaged + poor maintenance / lack of polishing /waxing.
As a detailer I've lost count of the number of VT VX VY red cars I've carried out paint correction on.
Also I've seen a lot of VX's which had Clear over base.

No problem there, I regularly wash, polish and wax the "collection".
