View Full Version : VF SSV Redline Wheels - Longshot

Hi All,
My redline should be delivered in around 7 - 8 weeks. If anyone has a delivery around the same time in Melbourne and isn't keen on the black rims and would like to swap for chrome, I'm happy to do a straight swap.
Longshot but worth a try.
Cheers Mick

Agree 100%, makes no sense why Holden don't give the customer a choice. Black on black would look a lot better. If I end up going down the Redline path tho, I'll just chuck on some 20s.

Send the dealer/s a note (to keep it in mind for future customers), tell them there's a carton of something (milk) for the heads up.

The black ones are an accessory. Just as HSVi ones are an accessory.
The customer does get a choice. Like most things in life though, "choice" costs money.
Might be hard to get a straight swap when they've had to pay extra for them as an option over the shiny ones the OP wants to offload, but good luck with your search.

Davo the black rims (or chrome) are standard on the Redline but is dependent on the colour choice of the car itself. Should the buyer want the black or chrome rims it should not be a hard thing to get.

Ok. Thought the black were a factory option factored into the build.
In regards to swapping between the two after build- in a "perfect" world- you may be right.
However, we don't live in a "perfect world". Not many mainstream manufacturers let you swap between things at no extra cost.

Yep i know but.... The wheels are only wheels and it's not like it cost them more or anything like that. I don't know, i reckon they would do it if you put it on the deal, they're not going to let a sale go because of the wheel colour.
When looking at the Redline the other week i asked if they could change the cream inserts in the dash and seats to just being black like the normall SS-V, the dealer said it wouldn't be a problem just would have to wait longer. Still undecided on the bargain of the century Redline or the R8 SV it's a big jump.

Be very nice indeed but i doubt that'll happen. Best we could hope for is a detuned version of the Gen V or maybe the L99. Either way i'm sold on one, it's just waiting for the initial rush to slow before going the R8 or the Redline.

Don't think so, the only difference i know of is the cream coloured strip down the middle of the Redline seats as opposed to the SS-V with the black strip (and IMO looks better). Same goes for the dash sections.

If the manufacturer wouldn't do it (i'm sure they would) the dealer would go out of his/her way to make it happen, i doubt they would let a sale slide due to the "wrong" colour wheels. They would just swap them from another car if need be.
As for the interior i am only going on what i was told when enquiring, the wife and myself aren't really a fan of the gaudy cream inserts, three young kids = dirty very fast. The dealer said it would be no problem as the parts are universal so a custom order would be needed hence the wait.

Maybe get them to swap everything cream for black and live with the strip in the seats?

One dealer lost a sale to me as well. I was going to buy this SSV Redline Prussian Grey but I didnt want it with the chrome wheels so I ended up buying a white one off another dealer. Such a simple thing for the dealer to change.

Holden won't put different colour rims on a vehicle, or change seats between SSV and Redline at the request of a customer. It shouldn't make a difference but it does. The only thing a dealer can do is swap wheels from one Redline to another, providing they have two vehicles in stock with the different rims. Trouble is then there is the issue of the next customer coming in and wanting the original rims back on the second vehicle. So it just becomes too messy. If there are two customers who both want the rims swapped then that's fine, otherwise probably not worth the dealer hassling with it.

Considering the current trend is black rims, i think there will be lotsa Chrome redline rims on ebay soon haha..*
I so look forward to a future when there are no dealers and we simply go to a website, build and customise the car the way we want and purchase and it gets delivered to your door!

Plenty,
Before settling on the SS-V Redline, I also test drove a SS and could definitely feel a difference in the seating – in particular the side bolstering in the bottom cushion of the seat.
I remembered reading something about it and found the answer in the 2013 Training Information Guide. This is a much thicker brochure given to sales staff for their training on VF and normally not seen by the public.
In that under seating it mentions:
- SV6 and SS seats feature more aggressive bolsters for body hugging support.
- V series seats combine sports back and bolster support with a superior – grade cushion.
So that is obviously what I noticed, when I test drove the cars. In VF at least there is some subtle differences across the range.
The dealer part i was referring to was the OP question about the wheels, the interior would be done at the factory with a custom order. The dealer assures me he can get it done, i can only go on what he says.
We have ordered a VF Redline ute and were told there is no way the interior inserts could be changed to black. Apparently there may be an option to change this down the track, however the reason given to us was due to the overwhelming number of people buying the new VF, they just wanted to get cars on the road. the Same goes for the wheels. Our dealer said if you do not like the chrome or black depending on which colour car you choose, get another set from BJ T marts. We said we are not buying a 50000 car and then paying extra for different wheels. We wanted the Regal peacock green but was told the wheels were black. We took an extra week to decide that black wheels on the green may look crap. On further examination, we found different colour cars come with either black or polished rims. Seems dealer had NFI. Now we have ordered the regal peacock as it definitely comes with the pushed rims.....

Exactly. Mind you, when the E2 GTS wheels came out, the majority of people were extremely disappointed. They went on to become extremely popular finding their way on all sorts of models, VE and prior. I expect the same from these wheels (they're really not that different).

I have purchased a Black VF SSV Redline Ute and would also love to swap the chrome rims for black.
The dealer I purchased from said I could option the black rims for $1300 more... screw that.
Why would anyone swap if they've paid an extra $1300 for the black wheels? I was with Wonky on the VF HSV wheels until I saw them in the flesh on a black clubsport, looked different, but very good. Same goes for the whole car actually, didn't like it in photos etc. but different in the flesh, especially in black.

You can buy a set of the black wheels on eBay for about $1400. I dare say the dealer quoting $1300 more would simply be ordering a new set through spare parts and swapping them over. Then returning the chrome wheels to spare parts stock. Bunch of wankers.

I beleive it shouldn't matter what colour car you bought, if different rims are available to the range then you should be able to get them without any additional charge.
The dealer I'm buying from has a Red Redline Wagon in the lot with black rims that's been there for a few weeks now, I'm going to try and bend his arm and see if he will do a straight swap for the rims if the wagon is still there when I pick up my ute.
