It's farewell to x400 workers today in SA and more to follow in Port Melbourne design.
Sad for the families, most have been preparing for it. - Production down from 400 to 335 units.
The SA Workers ~ 90% will not accept a pay cut, only delay Novembers pay rise - but not 4 pay rises in a row.
Time to watch with interest and have at hand either something to celebrate the future with or drown the sorrows.
Interesting to see if politicians come to the rescue of the Australian car manufacturing industry or help to drive a stake in it's heart.

Yeah these are all voluntary redundancies. There is usually a lot of old timers jumping at it when each round comes along cause they make a killing in their packages. Is going to be interesting next few months for Holden. I scratch my head and wonder who their are rooting for at the next election, it was Rudd until he announced his fbt cut

It does seem like GM are making it a statement to the govt. I mean just the other week Holden admitted they are now 3 months behind on all new
VF sales and will have to ramp up production to meat demand. Seems petty to make the workers the pawns in the middle.

Reports that I have been hearing is that the VF waiting list extends into next year, and law enforcement departments in the US have to wait as long as 12 months to wait for an order which has cost GM many sales. (note: I may be mistaken with these figures, but the point remains.)
In this situation, I don't understand how there can be a need to have redundancies. Is Holden setting itself up to fail?

Funny you should mention that ... Maybe the GM accountants globally would prefer to import, but if the reports of back logs are to go by then it's all very strange indeed.
AS to the US they ARE NOT AS TOLERANT to availability delays..... unlike Australians.
So it's either you have stock = sale or you don't = no sale over in the US.
