I had roller rockers fitted to my VE SS (L98 406 stroker). The original rocker covers were too shallow, so I had some spacers made. However, after lots of fiddling around, they still leak noticeably.

Can anyone recommend some aftermarket covers that will fit over the rollers please.

Regards, Dan

I researched this a bit Dan, on mine I'm using the YT Thick gaskets as spacers, no leaks.

There are quite a few tall covers available, Harrop do some nice ones, one alternative I considered is some billet adaptors that allow you to bolt on any SBC Cover.

Thanks for the ideas. I had some spacers made and can't seem to get them to stop leaking. Haven't tried those gaskets though. WIll have a look at Harrop

Very welcome, one thing to keep in mind if you use the stock bolts with the YT Gaskets don't Tq them to the factory spec as it will pull the threads out of the heads.... :(

Are they Yella Terra roller rockers? Because we found some of the off the shelf tall rocker covers still didn't clear the rockers on the sides. You can see the ones above have clearance for the rockers machined out.

Is this happening to anyone else? If its a common problem we can include instructions with them with a recommended torque.

If they are our rockers you should have received the thicker rubber gasket in the pack. Depends on the exact set purchased, as the platinums will require the alloy spacers

The ends of the stock bolts are tapered, I found if I backed it down to 8nm from the factory 12 it was ok, pulled a couple before this so had to helicoil them, have since helicoiled the rest so it's a non issue.

Heads on my engine have never been overheated so should still be "hard" and it's comparatively "new" being an L98 Crate engine I've owned since brand new.

proform do a cheap cast alloy cover can get from summit quite cheaply I got them with coil brackets for $250 US + freight
They clear my Jesel adjustable rockers only thing I dont like is they have a push in oil filler cap but for what I paid and isnt a nasty fabricated cover (they have a habit leaking from welds)

Hi have katech covers, I did a bit of searching when I was buying them as I didn't want to waste my money on something that would leak, and seems most fabricated ones are hit and miss, your best off with CnC ones but can pay big dollars for some. The katech were reasonable in price.

Holdan, I have used all the above rocker covers and the best by far are the Proform slant edge covers that Peter b mentioned. All the others leak including the original ones. GM even put their name on them.

I'm happy with the harrops on my vz, look a bit old school and clears roller rockers easy as long as you take the baffle out of the drivers side.

OK Thanks for that. What is the part number for the Proforma covers? Will my coils fit straight on?

Dan, have a look at the proform website. They come in different colours. They also have a special position for the coils that I did not want. Their position is at a different angle so that you can see the writing on the covers better. You would need longer leads with their position but use your coils. I chose to mount the coils to the side away from the covers on the inner guard. Remember mine is a landcruiser. You can buy a coil holder to hold the coils together in a smaller area (4 each side). Peter b could help there or just google for the ls1 coil holder. Summit sells the rocker covers and coil holders. The Harrop ones were fairly expensive in comparison. There is no mod needed for the proform covers and they are very well made. They clear Crower adjustable rockers that I run. What rockers are you running. Yella Terra rockers will clear the stock covers if you take the baffles out. Yella Terras were not strong enough for my springs so I had to go some thing much stronger and being adjustable as well is wonderful.

Dan, the part number on summitracing is pro-141-261. Different colours have different part numbers. That number is chevy orange. The website for proform is called proformparts.com

shop around as summit does price matching as long as you can provide a link they match it or beat it by a buck lol. I prefer dealing with summit when buying from us as service is always good and get my parts on time. I pay extra for air freight as I am impatient
