Yesterday, thieves cut the padlocks to the yard in Rowville, Vic, and stole this trailer Reg No Vic T39795 containing an outstanding piece of Australian Automotive history, this Renmax Repco sports racing car.
Any info please contact your local Police, or me, and I will pass on to the owner.

It should stand out like dogs' balls, but they'll probably just nick the engine for a boat or something...
The more people hear about it the better - someone out there knows someone who knows someone who knows/has seen something...

Scum
Still don't understand why they target these kind of things not like they can sell it or use parts

Even if they don't catch the clowns hopefully you get the car back undamaged.

Still no news on this - so keep an eye out please. It's a very distinctive trailer and also the car is No1 of only 4 ever built. The engine is a 3 litre Repco V8 ex Jack Brabham , ex Leo Geoghegan Lotus 49.
Because of the rarity of both they are probably not very saleable nor useable anywhere in the world.

The Age has got a story online today about this incident (Seldo, you should get a job with Fairfax, you're about 2 weeks ahead of the so called professional journos) Hopefully the extra publicity will find the car.

Channel 9 reporting it was found over night.
All it needed was proper publicity?

... the trailer was found at Cape Woolamai, the car itself in Belgrave South (according to this press report)
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/stolen-oneofakind-rennmax-race-car-discovered-in-courtneys-road-belgrave-south-20140108-30fxc.html
There is no way the car was driven from Woolamai to Belgrave Sth or for that matter pushed very far...
I would suggest the plod should make some 'enquiries' in Belgrave South :)

Thanks to all those who took interest in this and passed the word around. It seems that it will need a lot of work to get it back in shape again, but here's the latest report from the owner.
"I have finally had a chance to go over some of the car and it does not look good.
It was run and it is covered in mud and gravel .
The half shafts are bent and broken and the cars rims are bent on the right hand side rear where it has hit something.
The front RH side is sitting up 15 mm and the chassis may be bent and the alloy under tray is bent.
The wheels are pointing the wrong way, bent front end.
The rack looks bent but will have to have it looked at.
The bodywork will have to be repaired and fully repainted.
A new rear wing will be required as the old one is bent in the centre.
Gearbox and clutch will have to be inspected and tested as will all of the uprights and arms.
A new radiator and duct will have to be made.
The engine looks like it was cooked and it has no water in it.
A lot of small parts have been removed and it looks like they were going to paint it.
So basically a full rebuild from the ground up.
I would very much appreciate it if you could pass on my heartfelt thanks for all the help, support, positive comments and thoughts it was a great help knowing that I was not alone throughout this ordeal.
It goes to show us how close the different motor racing groups actually are.
Thanks Again

Sadly agree it sounds like dumber & dumber on that sort of damage.
+1 on someone knowing these punks and doing the right thing and dobbing them in, sparing others later from the same fate.

What absolute wankers. I detest thieves, but they could have at least stolen an old falcon or Commodore for a flog. To do that to such a nice machine is a real shame. I wouldn't be holding back if I found them.

Just as an aside - I misspelt the car's name in the thread title, but can't of course can't edit it. Rennmax Repco is the correct spelling, derived from the German word "rennen" for "fast".

Not being a scummy theif myself, or been the victim of it im curious about something. A full rebuild on a $300K+ car wont be cheap. Whats the chances of actually getting these costs forced on the thief? Assuming he wont be able to pay that upfront, can he be made to pay it off as long as it takes etc?

It's possible the owner could sue him in civil court once he's convicted.

Yep and courts will order sfa. Chances are old mate is not working and their is no way a magistrate will garnish centrelink payments.....
Shame but this is going to be another build funded by the owners back pocket, assuming some form of insurance won't cover
