C7 Corvette Z06 to have 620hp/650lb-ft

The Corvette Z06 set to be unveiled later this year will have 620hp (= 465Kw) of power and 650lb-ft (=860Nm) of torque. Makes you wonder what the next ZR1 will have.

LT4 is rumored to be on the cards.

Its already Blown so I honestly can't see a ZR1 coming in the short term

Yep, last night Jalopnik seems to have confirmed the Z06 engine is the LT4, a supercharged V8.

In a Q&A on Jalopnik, Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter was asked why the C7 Z06 didn't have a 7.0L atmo engine like the C6 Z06 LS7 engine. His response:

"Our original intent was to do an NA engine, we were unable to achieve all of our performance, durability, and regulatory (emissions) goals with NA. We weren't even close. You couldn't just do DI, VVT, no cylinder deactivation, 7.0 liter motor with the increase we would have wanted. New regs could have led to a horsepower decrease. "

So it seems like we can't expect to see a big cube version of the LT1. A pity, I loved the idea of the LS7, a 7.0L that spins to 7,000rpm.

And here is a good story on the technical details of the LT4 V8. Despite making similar power and torque to the LS9 which came with a 2.3L supercharger, the LT4 only has a 1.7L Eaton supercharger that spins much faster and is more efficient.
