Hi all so I'm really over my vx clubsport interior ATM and want to do something completely different to it.ive seen a fair few vx dash conversions but never got info from owner.im a mechanic by trade so don't mind tackling it.ive heard different story's from use vx harness and just change plugs for dash cluster and I've heard you will need a full vy bcm loom.any people would be great also has anyone done ve steering wheel on vx are they same splines ?

I have done it with full harness swap. But car was totally stripped for paint and we went v6 to ls1 as wagon ls1's were rare back then and certainly didn't come in devil yellow. We used a sedan harness and grafted the vt wagon rear harness at the rear drivers side door. Easier if it is a sedan as no grafting. There would be a lot of work to determine if the gauges and dash signals are compatible with each other and I would doubt it as they use different systems but happy to be proven wrong.

Hey Chad, hope you don't mind ... I'm going to paste your PM to me about it back in (God I'm getting old) 2007. So bear in mind kids, when Cobalt did his ... Things were a lot newer and more expensive:
If you dont have a donor car then forget it....
I had a sedan donor car and had to convert the rear harness to a wagon and that was the hard enough. It required buying a VZ Exec Wagon rear harness from the wreckers and the splicing the power windows wiring and the airbag harness into it as exec dont have side impact airbags. If you dont have the pinouts and a complete set of wiring diagrams it would be almost impossible.
To change the Wiring loom you have to cut the firewall and then reseal it as the harness is added when the firewall is glued in at the factory or you have to cut the harness and re join it. the vy and vt engine bay harnesses are also different. There are also connectors and wiring that suits the the newer engines. Are you changeing the engine. If it is a GENIII already you would be ok but the v6 has changes.
The VY and VX harnesses are very different. The wire count is not the same as there are extensive differences with the BCM and Dash. You could not change the plugs.
These are the things I can think of.... In five minutes off the bat. My suggestion is not to proceed as the cost of VY is pretty cheap.
If you were to go ahead the prepare the car to be off the road for at least a month. And you would probably have to remove the engine to change the harness. The only other way is to remove all the wires from the engine bay fusebox, label them and the put them back in the fusebox.
Sorry to put a dampner on your idea but this is the amount of work it took. The result is worth it though. I only did it as I had to change the harness for the GenIII conversion.
When I did this my donor car cost me 8k.
But they are worth less now but it is still pot luck whether you get one. I wanted a V8 one with side airbags and a black dash with climate so SS, Berlina and Calais were my only options. Missed a Calais for 5k but it was a v6 so got the vyII SS.
If you have further questions let me know...
Regards
Chad

Sound like that guy knows what he's on about Seedy. Lol
The katie wagon is a vt1. The vt2 made this swap easier as the rear harness colours were the same and just used the existing.
Seems like an age m8.
There are differences in wiring between vy level's as well so when I upgraded the
B from mid to high I had to modify interior lighting and some others just to get it to work.
Thems were the days.

Really the donor car is still the way to go. Get a bcm and keys. A smacked vy will run you a grand or two.
I just scored a full interior with leather and Bose sound, keyless go and some other upgrades for the mrs. 2010 Mazda 3 for a grand. Full harness with keys and cluster, sat nat and complete dash request switch door handles and the door cards. Holden parts are heaps heaps cheaper than Mazda.
I also have updated info as the second wagon we did I managed to swap the harness by removing pins from the front fuse block and not cutting the firewall. I also forgot we used a vt rear harness in the KW.
Hard to believe I did the first one 8 years ago.
I also had a copy of the complete Holden wiring diagrams for all models up to 2004 and this made a massive difference. Unfortunately were part of an PC image that found its way into my hands and they were encrypted pdf's that can't be extracted easily. It was windows 98. It may have it so PDF I printed if you want to continue with this and need specific questions answered.
I think you would open up such a bag of worms making a hybrid setup with more work and sub par results than a complete swap. The donor car stuff is so cheap now too
Cheers
Chad
