TT36 - If they built it would you buy it?

I know it's a long shot with them leaving Oz, but as a parting gift would you buy one of these?
A mid-sized, four-seater, rear-drive powered by a hand-built 280kW/480Nm twin turbo 3.6-litre Alloytec V6 engine.

To bring back a car like that that has so much respect and racing heritage- it NEEDS to look better that the images they put forward, not an equip with some aftermarket lights

Probably, Yes. When I had a 3 series Beema and the VE sitting next to each other I've always said a hybrid of the 2 would be PERFECT. The beema was for the most part never big enough for the 4 of us, yet sometimes the VE felt big especially if it were only short trips. The other thing is it needed to be on a global platform, flexible enough to be a wagon and/or SUV.

I'll go with B, BUT if they bring in the Vauxhall Insignia VXR (twin turbo 2.8 V6 from memory) I would be interested. They're a nice looking car. But, that's only if I couldn't have a V8.

The Torana TT36 by-and-large exists although not in Australia (yet). It is the Cadillac ATS. Current top of the range engine is the 240Kw version of the Commodore's atmo 3.6L V6. The Torana showcar was the genesis of the Alpha platform which is the basis of the ATS, CTS and the next Camaro although obviously it evolved from being a show car to a production car. Various reviews rave about the chassis, great handling and GM finally learnt how to strip weight out of a car too. The ATS is lighter than the equivalent 3 Series BMW.

A hi-po ATS-V version hasn't been built/released yet, but depending on which story you read it will powered by the 313Kw TTV6 as found in the CTS and XTS-Vsport, if this were to happen then this would be your production Torana TT36.

F- never enough market for it to begin with. It's just a little bit smaller VE Commodore, and since "mid sized" imports often approach Commodore size these days, how much could it possibly gain over VE/VF for the money spent developing it...

In 2012 I bought a Focus after test driving a Veloster and Cruze , the 1.4 SRI Cruze underwhelmed me with it's performance and price .
The Volester's auto transmission felt odd so I went for the Focus Trend with the Powershift transmission , one year later I sold it because it was giving me the shits and Ford didn't seem to be able to fix it.
If I had looked at the Toyota 86 I probably would have bought one .
As it is I have a V8 VY S Tonner & 1971 LC GTR in the shed , a V8 Toyota Soarer for when it's raining and a Harley & Hyabussa to get to work and back.

I often discuss cars with a mate of mine and the topic of what to buy often comes up , he doesn't mind his current VY V6 Calis and liked the VT V6 Belina that he sold to me but they are unnecessarily big , a little oversized for urban use.
We have both owned Vk Commodores and both found that they were a better size car than the VT but they were a bit long in the tooth.
Last weekend My mate and his brother and I were talking cars and the subject came up and the consensus was that a mid size car with the same drive-train as the full size car (with a smaller engine) was something that all three of us would look at, we weren't looking for modern A9X/XU1's. We just want something with a reasonable power-train , comfortable size and rear drive.
Perhaps we are dreaming but none of us have plans on forking out $$$ on Commodores or Cruzes or euro trash.
Holden seemed to have failed with the "safe" approach to their line-up of cars , could a Torana have done any worse ?

The TT36 Torana Concept looked a stunner when it was shown to the public back in October 2004 at the Australian International Motor Show.

It’s now 10 years later and it looks dated and even worse, it looks like a smaller version of the cheap entry level VE Commodore.

A car which may have been a winner if released in 2005 no longer does it for me.
