Hi guys
Just wondering how the factory traction control works on my car.
The car is a VXII hsv sv300 with an ls1.

I was under the impression that the traction control was simply a throttle relaxer that cut the throttle is traction was lost.
Simply it would cut power then reapply it when it had traction.
A mate of mine that happens to be a mechanic said that the car did this but it also applied the rear breaks to help.
He also mentioned that some cars would cut power by shutting of cylinders to limit power.

This all seems a little too complicated for a hsv of that age.

Can anyone clear this up for me.
Cheers
Brendan

From what I can remember it cuts spark or fuel, and if it isn't working it applies the brakes to the relevant wheel that has lost traction. I'll check my holden service cd

for the VT VX commdores Info from the Service CD.

When the ABS/ETC control module senses spin from the drive wheels due to too much engine torque for the road conditions, it enters the traction control mode. The ABS/ETC module monitors both front and rear wheel speeds through the wheel speed sensors. If at any time during acceleration the ABS/ETC module detects drive wheel slip, it will request:
• The PCM, via the spark retard circuit, to retard the amount of spark advance.
• The PCM, to restrict transmission downshifting.
• The throttle relaxer control module to reduce the engine throttle opening by a certain percentage to bring engine torque into aspecific range.

The throttle relaxer control module accomplishes this by commanding the throttle relaxer to override the accelerator pedal cable and physically reduce the throttle body butterfly opening by winding the throttle cable back.

Ok do from that I take that there is no application of the brakes.
Thanks for looking it up, it certainly helps
