It will be an interesting test that is for sure. Have always like the look of the car. Saw it as a teenager and thought wow. That has stuck with me ever since.

I saw one of these in a car yard the year they came out and I was blown away...probably the first time I ever saw carbon fibre..(or look a like)

They were great in the day, but I don't think they are old enough to grow to legendary status, like a Brocky.
When you sit in it, it still looks like a pretty basic VS with go fast bit on it.

Given that it's no K's and build 1 might raise some extra, I still think 80-85 ballpark.
The guys with build 8 wanting 92K is hoping there are some very nostalgic 30yr olds out there...

I heard this car sold previously in the muscle car boom for $220k......

Build No. 74 is for sale with 16,400km for $64,500....so you may be on the money. Jamie...

I'm with jc, unless you were set on a build no.1 car to add with others or wanted nothing but a GTS-R then it probably won't fetch much more than the others floating around for sale.

Cool cars, I remember seeing one parked at the Sunshine Coast when I was a kid and a crowd of people looking at it

Not one of my favourites.
An attention getter for sure, but the mechanicals are nothing special, and the "enhanced engine"??..what a rip off that was , for what was it, 12KW. I remember Brock speaking to me about this enhancement, & in his words he said, "James (Brock) could build a better engine for a third of the price".
If I was looking for a car of this vintage it'd be a VS Series 11 215 Senator, manual or auto, wouldn't worry me, & theres mint low K ones around for $20K or under.

Time hasn't been very kind to the GTS-R.

Sometimes a car is a bit too out there for its time but later becomes revered (like the Walkinshaw VL) but the GTS-R was pretty ugly when it came out and is still pretty awkward looking.

Yeah, I remember very clearly being in Metro Holden showroom when these were about to come out,

plenty of the sales staff thought they looked horrible even back then

and were very disappointed with the power figures

and that trim:spew:

Is this the ugliest HSV made ?

Is this the ugliest HSV made ?

Aside from the Astra and Jackaroo variants I'd say so.

On the other side of the coin I reckon one of the most attractive HSV's of all time is the SV5000. It was just so tough for its day!

Definitely.

That rear wing is out of control. Wasn't cool then and is definitely not cool now. And taxi mellow yellow.........

Its unique and perhaps that generates the interest but dam its ugly.

"Generates the interest", well you're right there.
Like I've said, I'm not a fan of these, but I do remember when they were released, & the HSVOC were invited down to Penfolds South Yarra for a drive. Well, driving down Chapel St South Yarra, I don't think we'd have got more looks if we were driving a Sherman Tank, so yeah,.."attention getter"?.....gotta be no. 1 there!

I was 26 when these came out.
And with no internet back then knew nothing of the "taxi" yellow. Never driven one, but have sat in one. Would be in my top 3 pre 2000 HSV's made.

Anyone reckon HSV will do another as a swansong for the Commodore? (Like GT-F for Falcon)

Sitting for that long with 86ks not good for all the running gear seals if you bought it and used it i think things may start to leak good for a museum maybe imo

The interior would be mint, but mechanically I'd be more concerned buying this vehicle than one with 50,000k's on the clock.

They had a hydratrack rear didnt they? Was it a T56 or the same box as the VN Grp A?

If they had of had the twin throttles intake etc, they would of been a little more desirable..

I'd love a GTS-R with a blown LS3 - almost a sleeper :)

It's funny seeing the 215i sticker. Can get that at the wheels with a dirty old VY SS these days. Still, great initiative by HSV. It was nearly 20 years ago now I suppose, I guess back then there was not even a mobile...

I bought my first mobile back in 1988 :yup:

Edit... (they called it a "portable telephone" back then,) it was half the size of a car battery & I paid around $7,500 for it

As much as I like the LS tech and how easy they are to get power, I would take a 215i over a VY SS any day of the week

Wasn't for sale by the original owner.
This owner paid ~220k for it.... You win some, you lose some.

Interesting to note that there was a $10,000 option on this car for a blueprinted motor rebuilt by HRT themselves. Apparently is was good for 10-20kw more and 1/3rd of buyers took up this option.

white lie
01-07-2014, 10:08 PM
HRT blueprint was optional on more than just the GTS-R but not many took it due to the price. Ran from VR's thru to VT's on the 350ci motors, some of the 10th anniv models copped them 'on the house'.
Only bumped power up to 230-240kw (I don't believe an official figure was ever released) so wasn't exactly value for money.

isnt there only 5 of these with both factory options? sunroof and blueprint.. they be the ones to get over a low km low build#.

C4B
02-07-2014, 10:07 AM
The problem is although there was probably a lot of labour involved to carry out the blueprint it's not really a "hot up" mod as such and I remember at the time Motor or Wheels did a comparison between a blueprint vs standard engine and the blueprint was slower.

The value in a blueprint is more in reliability and longevity because everything is going to be perfectly matched. You will potentially get some more power because of it but it's not guaranteed.

I remember members of the HSV owners club referring to it as the HRT Stupid Tax for people with more money than brains.
