Has any one used this? I cant even see them on the VCM website..odd...

http://www.tuffcarparts.com/index.php?route=product%2Fproduct&product_id=1386

http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/vkpwr/vcm_zps58a50c88.jpg

seems like a new version and was thinking of updating mine due to the small size filter

http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/vkpwr/HP-FCarbonFirbeglassOTRCAI_zpscc2c47c9.jpg

and this VCM seem's to be larger... however its plastic... might flex??

Any thoughts?

They are a new design, only been out a few months.
Couldn't find them here?

looks the same design as the x-air

I have a dus but if I was to change id go to one like this

I wouldn't worry bout the plastic, think Markone-2 tested ali against plastic at the track and plastic was faster. Their ve plastic ones look like a good design, think i read of one flexing in with a blower but seem to lots of them around

I'm looking forward to seeing some results on this new vcm unit as well, I need to upgrade from my standard unit. I'm trying to decide on a otr or pod in a box style.

Will let everyone know ,as I had a RAMJET and Sonny has just swapped that out for the VCM OTRCAI. Sonny has my car finishing up the tune ,pardon the pun stay tuned.

It would be interesting to hear his thoughts on the new VCM OTR , my old PT OTR broke a while ago and I have been running the stock airbox , maf and maf pipe.

Some sources say that X-Air was first to the market, and that the VCM one is very similar.

I've been told that there is a reasonable increase, not really willing to part with the $ though given that I have one that works fine already.

^^ some who know the whole story smile at such silliness over imitations and support Dus.
I thought Sonny was flogging Orssom?!

not sure what you're on about - different design to the Dus one. Not everyone wants to spend $700 on an OTR either.

I was going to get an X-Air and do a comparative test, but it's money better spent elsewhere.

I'm after something that flows better than the dus, filter area is too small for my purposes.
Just not sure these will have enough side to side movement to line up with the tb on the blower.

Here's the link to the X-Air web site, based in NZ...

knowing the amount of R&D VCM do and hte quality of their other products i'm sure this is a fantastic OTR, i have run their aluminium one on different cars for years without problem.

i do remember reading on their website or FB page they or someone had done back to back testing with the VCM alloy one and this was slightly better

Question guys,

Given I have replaced my old OTRCAI with the VCM one, would it even warrant a touch up on the tune?

Both the OTRCAI, but the VCM does let a lot more air in... may be leaner... interested in your thoughts...

Run it up and see but I would imagine you'd get more 'real world' results where the air can flow in to it rather than on a dyno where it's just sucking or has a tiny little fan in front of it.

I wouldn't have thought most decent OTR's were a restriction on an NA motor though

I have not run it up but I can report back that compared to my previous one I have an improved idle, throttle response and my avg fuel consuption has dropped, I mean I was getting 10.9 downeast link and previous was 16.7 and my car not that long ago was getting 23.7 in the city... city today 15.6...

I think it says more about the previous restiction my old OTRCAI had...any way I am happy... feels nicer to drive... due for a touch up tune in a couple of months.. but with other items joining the mix will be hard to determine any real world gains.

For that amount of difference, it says to me that the Ramjet was either a total POS, or your tune needed some serious improvements to drop that much in fuel consumption, assuming you were driving at the same speeds and in the same style.

My tuner tells me that the X-Air/VCM design will not gain much of an increase over the old alloy VCM one - not enough to warrant changing it anyway.

Any other changes between those two drives? PCM reset, O2 sensors etc etc? The difference seems excessive but I'm sure you are enjoying it!

^^ yeah, a kilowatt difference between them untuned, less than 5kw tuned... That's about 3/5 of bugger all.
