Honestly the VXR is a nice enough car (TT V6, AWD), but it's no RWD V8. No wagon, no ute, can see a lot of upset people over this if true (I wouldn't be surprised if it is).
Good for VF's holding value though. :)

Lets hope not. Reminds me of the old Ford Taurus. An advantage might be aerodynamics? Maybe a front bar change would help?

I mean the future Insignia - the engine plant is also getting shut down here isn't it?

Sorry no idea I wasn't even sure about this one! The Caddy is running a V6TT. About 300kW from memory.

Well the Utes gone forever anyway after 2017. When the VF, the last real Commodore, ends production.

A cruise front end on a, on a, I'm not even sure what the hell that back end is... I hope it never wears a holden badge.

GM Holden has today announced it will introduce flagship versions of Opel’s Astra and Insignia – and the new Opel Cascada convertible – to its showrooms within 12 months.
The four Holden-badged Opel models it confirmed for release in the first half of 2015 are the small Astra GTC and VXR three-door hatchbacks, the mid-size Insignia VXR performance sedan and the Cascada drop-top.

The reality is that most buyers have moved from the sorts of cars that interest many of us on here to (mostly) small cars and 200 different categories on "SUV's".
We'll see. Rumour has it that HSV's post Commodore future is based on a twin turbo all wheel drive Insignia based variant.

Went to the UK and there were plenty of Insignias on the road. It is a very good looking car, but as per PD's comment who cares about sedans. A much better next gen Captiva is more important than the next gen Insignia, hopefully GM really step up the game with the Captiva. I see the latest turbo Trax is getting good reviews, hopefully Holden can do well with these, Buick's version of the Trax in the US market, the Encore, is selling well over there.
Cheers, Matthew

Ford sold quite a few turbo 6 Falcons so the evidence is out there that aussies will buy cars without a V8 exhaust note. With most Commodore's based off Opel styling across the history of the nameplate, the styling should find appeal. It's more about whether people can deal with the inevitable, because, unless everyone starts buying Chrysler 300C V8's or 2 door US muscle (or hangs onto their increasingly ageing locally made cars), they're going to have to buying something without a V8!
I've never understood the mentality of people that say things like "I'll never buy another Ford or Holden because they're shutting down"- to then go buy a Toyota Prado (or whatever), a TOTALLY different kind of vehicle. They always come across as people trying to justify their decision to whoever will listen for some reason or another...

I have had two XR6s, one with turbo so the number of cylinders doesn't bother me. It has to move right though. Oh and the Minister for War has a Prado. In fact I am the only one who uses sparking plugs.

Talking about the lack of sparking plugs, when diesel is combined with city drivers doing short trips in modern DPF fitted vehicles, it is leading to some fairly horrendous blocked DPF repair bills these days...
Too many people think you can just drive them the same way you do a petrol car, and nothing ever happens bar cheaper fuel bills...

People bought the 6 because it went like a scalded cat. My brother had one and it was fun but the suspension had trouble keeping up. He now has a V8 VE and prefers to drive it over the Falcon. I bought a V8 as I had not owned one and wanted one. I certainly would not be adverse to a TT6. Had a VL turbo and it was a lot of fun. I must say that I am not a fan however of the new order of soft roaders. Just don't see the attraction to owning a pseudo off roader.

I think we have to stop looking at cars that are available now as the 2018 replacement for Commodore. every now and then I go back to the ad holden ran and the screen grab of the concept on the PC every car media outlet ran with - more and more I'm getting gut feeling about the current Opel Monza concept, the styling is very similar to that on the TV ad and wasn't the original commodore based on the Opel Monza? The Commodore has been European "styled" with big US engines, just seems to fit the story building in my head. Apparently the Monza can be 2 door coupe, hatch, 4 door sedan, sportback + lift kit hello adventra (SUV).
Pay more attention to whats under his arm than what on the screen:

Whilst usually practical (but not always), people have been sucked in by the marketing led "need" to have high driving positions (for extra "safety" apparently ) and the dream (mirage?) of weekend escapes to the bush.
All at the cost of virtually ALL driving pleasure...and more often than not decent performance.

We only bought our Captiva because we needed 7 seats at the time, next car will be something completely different.

If you needed 7 seats then you have a perfectly valid reason for your choice. :)

End of the day people can buy whatever they want, and if they are happy then that's all that matters.
It's just a bit sad the way this country's gone that, in the past, when people bought something that wasn't necessarily a "perfect fit" for their needs, they might have bought a coupe, or a thumping V8 etc etc. Something with motoring related EMOTION.
Whereas now it's more likely to be some totally devoid of excitement box on wheels sold on the mirage of a city escape, and the vehicle is simply a means to an end.

Exactly - People ask me "Why do you have to drive a V8?" (usually with a whiny voice)
My answer is always "Because I Can!"

I got a '08 Forester for the wife about 2 months ago replacing a '06 Lancer wagon. A wagon or SUV type vehicle is more useful than a big sedan when it comes to carrying anything on the bulky side, but definitely lose in the driving department compared to say my 09 SV6 VE. Not knocking Subaru in particular but most of the mid size SUV's are pretty heavy given their engine size, most of them are around the 1600Kg mark with 2.4 or 2.5 litres typically about 125Kw, Ford Kuga is 1650 Kg with a 1.6 turbo. SV6 VE is more like 1700 kg, but at least you've got a 3.6 and a better handling car and 210Kw, it's a pity the sedan is useless when it comes to carrying anything bulky. One upside with a Forester is pretty good all round visibility compared to the VE and most other more recently designed cars and SUV's.

Bit of a setup - only one is a car. The others are re-purposed tractors... :fishing:
