Guys ,
Got an 06 VZ V8 intermittent starter motor problem , fires up fine 90% of the time and now and again wont turn over just a single “click” light on dash stay?. Turn the key a couple times and fires up.
Battery is good (will fire with high beam)
After ideas

My 03 VY has had this issue ever since I have owned it. It was worse when I first got the car and I checked a lot of connections to no avail. Even considered changing the starter motor. The frequency it occurred gradually decreased from about 80% of the time to rarely. Sometimes if I held the key in start for several seconds it would fire up. Nothing I did made a difference even changing the battery (it was a bit tired to start) so if someone has any ideas I would be all ears.

Did you clean the contacts on the key and round the barrel or try the spare key (or even key in the other way if you don't have a spare)

I've had this happen to my VZ a few times a couple of months ago when it was super cold. Hasn't happened since, but since then I have replaced the battery and shell of my main key which may have had some impact (original battery was pretty much dead).

had a similar issue with the mrs' old VX.
Turned out to be the metal ring that the end of the key makes contact with. The whole lot ended up popping out one day - bought another surround for ~$30 on eBay, problem solved.
