Yes the Mustang V8 will be cheaper than the current GT Falcon.
So ...... question, what has GM got to bring to Australia.
Camaro or Corvette - RHD may be an issue though for them.
We will wait and see I guess.

GM has nothing, the Camaro is engineered for RHD because its on the zeta platform but GM won't make it.

I believe Ford Aus will do very well with their Mustang,....and unbelievably (for Ford), they seem to have got some good presales advertising going. So yes, I think it (The Mustang) will be a great success. As the basic car will be built RHD, it will be interesting to see if any of the more powerful (some VERY powerful) versions, will also be able to be ordered RHD.
I can see Ford putting it to V8 Supercars, that if they want Ford involvement, then they'll have to allow Mustang (2 door). I could be wrong here, because I've heard that Ford may want to use Mondeo, if that car replaces Falcon as their "main" car, but personally I'd like to see them go the Mustang route.
So, how will GM (Holden) respond. I believe that if GM see worthwhile sales of RHD Mustangs, they will do the same with Camaro, otherewise Ford'll have this market segment to themselves.

It may apear good value compared to a GT but that is Ford's most expensive car.
Value appears poor compared to US local prices
Am pleased they are bringing it here though.
I wonder if you can get it delivered in the US use it for a long holiday then bring it back

Yes this why we need grey imports allowed ..... so the manufactures along with our beloved local distributors and dealers drop their financial pants - instead of the customers.
Like yourself Stu many are looking over the wall with the same conclusion & the book of excuses is long to maintain the status quo.
I believe we can do way lot better.
Since local manufacturing is going offshore, we might as well all stick together and demand way better pricing.
The world is getting smaller ever day.

New Mustang to cost the same as a Falcon, will have four-cylinder or V8 power -- and a burnout button on the V8 models.
The new Ford Mustang will cost the same as a Falcon when it goes on sale next year -- and there are already 13,000 Australians queuing to buy the American icon.
A top secret dealer bulletin obtained by News Corp Australia says the Mustang will cost between $50,000 and $70,000 in Australia, making it significantly cheaper than the outgoing Falcon GT which cost $80,000, and in line with the price for the last series of V8-powered Falcon XR8 sedans to be built at Broadmeadows.
The Mustang is due to fill the V8 performance-car void in Ford showrooms once the Falcon goes out of production in October 2016, but in a shock to diehard fans a four-cylinder version will also be available.

It’s not the first time the Mustang has had a four-cylinder engine -- an economy version was sold in the US from 1978 to 1993 -- but it is the first time a four-cylinder Mustang will be sold in Australia.
Before fans scoff, Ford points out that the new generation turbocharged four-cylinder engine has almost as much power as the old V8 and sips a fraction of the fuel.
Ford reintroduced the four-cylinder option this time around to appeal to fuel misers and to meet stringent fuel economy targets in Europe.
At the other end of the performance scale, the V8 version of the new Ford Mustang is the first mass-production car in the world to come with a “burnout” button.
Press a button and the front brakes will lock but the rear brakes will not. Floor the throttle and the tyres quickly smoke up.
Ford says the system is designed to be used at off-street drag racing meetings, a popular hobby for many Mustang owners in the US.
This is the first time in the muscle car’s 50-year history that the Mustang will be made in right-hand-drive on a Ford production line.
The Mustangs sold in Australia in the 1960s and early 2000s were made in left-hand-drive and then converted locally.
The latest models will be made in Ford’s Mustang factory in Flat Rock, Michigan.
The Mustang is already on sale in the US and is due in Australian showrooms -- and 25 other right-hand-drive countries, including Japan, the UK and South Africa -- by the middle of next year.
In Australia, the Mustang will be sold in coupe and convertible body styles with a choice of four-cylinder or V8 power.
Fast facts: Ford Mustang
Price: $50,000 to $70,000
Engine: 5.0-litre V8 or 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo
Power: 325kW/540Nm (V8), 230kW/430Nm (four-cylinder)
Fuel economy: 12.3L/100km (V8), 9.0L/100km (four-cylinder)
On sale: In Australia 2015
*All power and consumption figures are approximate and based on US testing standards. Australian figures may vary.

I'll be buying one. Probably just the 4 cylinder though. I reckon they look great.
Will be a nice upgrade for my VF SSV in years to come. I'm not interested in import Holdens only the Aussie Commdodore kept me in a Holden. .

I am considering getting one of these, price seems ok to me. Cant wait to see it in the metal!
GM don't make anything I would want so not worried about what they do to be honest. Ironically 2015 will be 20 years since my first Holden (and I've driven one in some form ever since!).

It is a fantastic looking car however I would want to see what GM offer before I would spend the $. Not that I am in a position to buy a new car at the moment so I have plenty of time to wait...

Yes, I think the price is OK too, although with these things ya can't really say much until the actual price is announced, but jeez, around $70K seems bloody good value to me,....what else is there like this on the Aussie market,.....and that price is a damn sight cheaper than the Mustangs currently available, that are converted to LHD in Aus.
Like I said, I reckon Ford are on a winner here.

How is a 2-door a worthy replacement for a 4 door sedan?
The Monaro showed that their isn't a solid market for 2 door cars.

I reckon you are right. The name itself will attract people. For me though a Mustang is something I have never really had a soft spot for and has never really been something I wanted to own.

They aren't a car I have really wanted, but if its going to be as cheap as they are speculating, if you want a 2 door V8 coupe its going to be a brand new mustang or a 10 year old HSV Coupe. I think the technology and modern interior in the mustang will be enough to drop the value of a second hand HSV Coupe 8-10k.
Pretty easy on the eyes too.

It's not a replacement for a 4 door, it's more of a replacement of a performance model.
The 4 door performance car is very much a Aussie thing. With companies changing to global market strategies id say they have done the maths and worked out that in the right hand drive sector that is their best shot at selling a lot worldwide if they price it right.
Can only hope for a rhd cts or dodge charger.

My first Commodore was a new VK SL 5 speed in 1984, I've had Commodores for 30 years now, VK then VN 5 speed, VP Exec, VS Exec, two VX's (a LS1 Calais and the Clubby) and now I also have an MY10 VE SV6 in addition to still having the VX R8, but back on the original topic I reckon Ford will sell plenty of Mustangs, even if two door cars have never been big sellers in Oz, they will definitely have a market, if they are good value for money, they should be an easy sell.

Has anyone actually considered or looked into buying a new mustang. I quite like it and the pricing but would be curious as to wait times.

If you placed an order by the cut-off date of last March you were supposed to be in line for a December delivery.
After that it’s an 18 month wait.
Though I wouldn’t quote those times as gospel, they are only dealer guesstimates as Ford hasn’t officially released the delivery dates yet.
There is some discussion on the Ford Forums regarding lengthy delays due to lack of stock but no-one has any concrete info.

In yesterday newspaper, it was said that for orders taken now, the dealers are quoting June delivery, deliveries for the first cars ordered is said to be November, and showroom release December (seems odd to deliver cars before showroom release, but I guess they were ordered a long time ago).
