Hey lads, just wondering what kind of Kms people are getting out of a tank of e85 in a boosted ls1. I've checked for leaks and I'm certain I'm good there, no smell of fuel, or puddles. It doesn't smell rich, to be honest it's smells less than 98. But I reckon I'll be lucky to get 200km to a tank. I wouldn't say I'm flogging it everywhere, so thought I'd asked the question?

Well the stoich for E85 at cruising is 9.87 : 1 . The stoich for 98 is 14.7: 1, so the E85 usage should be more at the ratio of 14.7 / 9.87 = 1.49. So your usage at cruise will be nearly half again which is a lot more. So if you got 300kms from a tank on 98 you should get 300/1.49 now = 201 kms on E85. that is if you are cruising.

I was under the assumption I'd struggle to get 200 to a tank if I switched. I get around 300-350 on 98

This a great simple explanation.
Even my wifes corolla gets better mileage on unleaded (91 or 95) than when using E10 which is only 10% ethanol so can only imagine how much extra fuel would be chewed when using E85.

There is a lot of work that can be done on lean cruise and timing when using E85, takes a lot of effort and logging to get there, but you should see some savings.

Hi mate did a fuel test on mine the other day on a twin turbo, cam clubsport ls3 manual trans, standard diff ratio sitting on around 110kph and returned 16ltrs per hundred and am happy with that.

Not charged but 6L L98 with heads 239/247 cam and I get 450 a tank on E85.

at steady 110 i'm at 12L per hundered with 3.7 diff.

Sounds like your running pretty rich to the OP or just flogging it..

Must be my heavy foot. I switched straight to e85, so I don't know what it would have done on pump.

I get 350-400km a tank with e85. 6.2L Mast heads, 235/243, big stall, 3.9's

I thought the idea of doing the e85 thing was (unless you're a greenie) a pure power play,
so anything that produces power will eat more fuel even when doing the norm.

Bet it runs cooler with all that fuel gong thru it ;)

And maybe working it out dollar for dollar as opposed to litre for litre might make you feel better.
