Hi peeps,

firstly great forum :) and first post so don't be too hard on me :P

ok now down to business. I am about to purchase a VY series 11 SS ute but im not sure what i should be looking for. I have always driven high hp imports so this is all different to me lol. Having checked over the car Ive noticed the drivers side lifters appear noisy and also the gearbox is im guessing the better side of f**ked. Hard to get into 1st and 2nd and the shifter doesn't really move freely when in neutral. I was told that this is because its modded (forgive me i cant remember what they said was done to it) and it also has a twin plate clutch

is there anything that i should be looking for or not looking for? overall the car appears to have been well looked after. Extremely clean. and slightly modified.

List of mods below

Cam
mafless tune
OTR
suspension and bushes done
extractors and zaust
trutrack 3.9

and a few other little things...

any help would be great

Re the gearstick. I would assume that it has a ripshifter in it (or simular) those things have almost no play in them. Whilst Im not a fan of them, there are plenty on here that are and swear by them. If it is hard to engage gear, it may just need adjusting on the stops. Do a search on here in regards to ripshifters and you will se its not that bad

Re the lifter noise. That simply may be due to the aggrevness of the cam

Get a mechanic to check it out if it is the gearbox and the lifters could be big $$$$$.

you could be right but id assume it would be on both sides if that was the case? is there anything i should look for? i believe (so i was told) the cam is a 232

I can't send him a PM either. Account must be too new. Send us an email mate - brendanthomas at gmail.com

The gearbox is fine. It's always been tight since i had the 2nd and 3rd gear synchros replaced. Once warm it's fine.
Cam is a 224/228 Comp cam
Castrol edge 10/60 is what i always ran. kept lifter noise to a minimum.
Yes it has a Ripshifter.

If i had the cash spare for my Monaro i would have kept it. Was devo'd when i traded it in. lol.

Just put a decent oil in the gearbox, don't forget to flush twice

All you need to know is on here, just use the search

Best oil for your box is on special at present

Mainlube 154 Synthetic Solid Boundary E P gear Oil SAE 75w80
Mainlube 245a Flushing additive make 22 Litres of flushing oil when mixed with cheap engine oil.

You need to flush twice to get the metal the box has made with other oils out (that's you rollover noise, disappears when you put the clutch in)

Sale ends 25 Dec, this oil will not be this price again, don't miss out on the sale.

Just given you the heads up

Cheers

Steve
