Ok this all coming from an HVAC man
My VZ crew been running the air all day & working pretty good @ ambient 31c drybulb.
This arvo noted performance dropping off, hissing @ TX & Evap. Not short cycling on Temp nor HP nor LP!!
Comp. is running too.
Does Mick have a faarked comp or TX?

If it's hissing it's probably low thus leaking. That's the only time I've seen them hiss anyway

Ok looks like Mick has to employ Mr.Bubbles to find the leak then!

Come find my leak. Got me stuffed where it is. Got dye in it too and nadda shows up. Takes about a month to drop pressure where mine starts to hiss and become useless. I just keep topping it up with R290 lol

R290 straight replacement for R134aye?
I wouldn't say that. But it works great and is $20 for 9kg. It is compatible with seals and PAG 150

Mine is hissing now and have had it before and has poor ac performance at higher temps. I agree with macca. Like a low gas charge.

Ok Mickla has an update..whilst the other day was hissing yet had gas & not tripping on LP. This morning refused to kick the clutch or Rad fans in as it normally does on aircon!
So installed me access valve & guages & was very low on gas...Pumped her up with some HP nitro to op press. & after a few mins noticed a very small leak up front in the Condenser. Whipped out the Condenser & found a hairline split in the original coil. On the VZ SS it's impossible to cop a rock or stone in your Cond. as the mesh is that fine to inhibit them! So it was an age thing no more. So have ordered one from a Rad. place & all going well will install Monday & recharge her too. Was reasonably pleased to pick up a bottle of R134a @ $25/kg.
On another note don't ever ever ever go to a stealership for a replacement filter/drier as they want $88 for them! I went to a Car air joint that have never frequented before & walked away with one for $20!!!
So fingers crossed I receive the Cond. Mundee & have air again

Update: Whilst ranting above a Courier shook my front door & left the new Cond. @ $119 free delivery & only ordered & paid for it @ 10am this morning!! :goodjob:
Mick may get up real early tomorra & get this thing sorted!! :yahoo::thumbsup:

Ok done the job in approx. 1.5hrs including fitting a new drier, orings & suction access Schroeder valve, evacuating & recharging.
The replacement condenser I used came with all hardware so no swapping out any brackets etc. Bit tight doing with front bar in situ though doable.
Fitting up the new drier & securing is a little tedious but found if I used plenty of bad language etc. it eventually came together as it does with very few spares left over :D
Glad to have the air going again! :yup:

While on leaks some people over look the access valves or Schroeder valves. Whilst leak testing or checking the guage line/access fitting actually seals off that port. Can easily be overlooked & the plastic cap & flat rubber gasket aren't gas tight either. If your system's down best change these Schroeder's as they very cheap
& easy to do. When I take my access fitting off always check there for a possible leak.

Get it nitrogen tested. It's the only way.
I spent hundreds and hundres on top ups and getting frustrated going to auto elec after auto elec.
Finally found these guys who identified the problem right away http://www.bandjautoelectrical.com.au/
I highly recommend them if you are in the Sydney area.

Done that myself mate. Unlike yours where it dropped over hours. Mine takes week. Might try changing my valves though.

got mine regassed again the other week, turned out its o rings had blown out, at least the gas has gone down a lot in price. Almost a year to the day after I'd dropped $1100 on a new compressor, dryer etc etc.
Still not a very good air con compared to your average Toyota or Ford though.

Funny you say that! My VZ06 is the 2nd newest car Ive owned to have an aircon fail & I'm in the game.
Find the GM systems to be as good as any.
With My Z it's life began in Mt Isa then to Sunshine Coast Qld. So reckon that would have been put to task early in life!!
BTW the refrigerant price I'm quoting is my Co. Refrig auth. user buy price, no margin etc. I believe Ed on this board had his recharged for approx. 60 bucks which is an excellent price. :yup:

regas on mine was $240 last time, $160 this time! One benefit of no carbon tax!
I reckon the air con in mine had been used a lot, as it smelt like feet when I bought the car, to the point where I had to use some of that cleaner you spray with a tube down the vent. Aircon works OK, but definitely not on the same level as a Ford or a Toyota. I found VE aircon to not be much chop either!
