Just seen this.
A rusty, non original engined, HR X2 Special Auto, for $27K on ANCS....It would reqire a FULL rotisserie resto. Ridiculous price IMHO, what do you guys think?
On Carsales I see a nice original EH Premier for $25K,...I know which one I'd rather have.

auto and not having matching number engine kill the deal. I don't know how much demand there is for the X2 but I'd imagine it would need to be matching numbers and 4sp manual for that sort of cash at least, and probably in far better condition.
My Aunt had an EH Premier 179 Hydramatic owned from new until her death in the mid 90's. Unfortunately for me she had children not just nephews...
Cheers, Matthew
Just not getting the whole Nostalgia old car thing... I lived through that period and the car were for most part shitboxes...

Old cars have got their place for sure, I have one that I've owned for over 30 years, a reasonably tidy HQ but no matter how nice it looks or how fast it is it's still a 1972 model car and drives accordingly. I can't believe the money that some morons ask for them, or what some other morons are prepared to pay for them, for example when phase 3 GTHO's were up around the three quarters of a million dollars a few years ago, WTF? for a 1971 Falcon that any V8 Falcon or Commodore made in the last 15 years would kill in every area without trying, that's just insanity.
Don't get me wrong, there's some great iconic old cars with GTHO's being one of them, and they're definitely worth good money but nowhere near that much ffs. It's got that way now that people think pretty much anything more than twenty years old is instantly a classic and worth at least five times more than it really is, no matter what a POS it is now or was even when it was new, my 2 cents worth.
Best wishes,
Jason.

Wow.. this thread is turning my cogs way back. remember the Bro giving me an old EH 179 (HP) Steel crank virgin block! Then had Parry's in Arncliffe bore it out to a 186. Then fitted a 202 YT head & 350 Holley slotted in my old 138 LJ torry & did she go...

G'Day my friend, 350 Holley with a 186, did that with my son's LX Torana,..with an Ian Tate head & cam,...absolutely transformed the car,...those were the days, and we didn't pay stupid money like this HR!!!

but yes... they had character (something missing from a lot of todays joyless plastic shitboxes). That is part of the reason people hanker for these
oh... I am being nostalgic :)

Sure it's not just looking through rose coloured glasses Smitty?
I'm talking about pre HR, King pin Front Ends, Leaf Springs, 4 wheel Drum Brakes and Steering boxes or going back a touch further Vacuum Wipers and 6v Electricals... :spew:

I had an FB that had all that Ian.... I swapped the vacuum wipers for EK electrics though. Then went the whole hog on the old grey motor. It was a head turner, but sure needed a lot of effort to drive it compared to today's cars.

Grew up working on BMC cars and Early Holden's as that's what the neighbour had that taught me the basics... as I said in an earlier post "shitboxes" ;)
Don't think there's a component or part of an FB I haven't had apart as some stage back in the day!
My first car was an EH but I sold it well before I got my licence, my first "legal" car was a HQ Coupe I bought as a shell from a Wrecker when I was 16 and spent the next 2 years rebuilding, everyone else had EH/HR's at the time I had my 308 4 speed Coupe with the HZ Statesman front and GTS guards..
I don't really get nostalgic about cars as I posted they really were bad back then and I'm happy to have them as a comparison to just how good things are now :D
