Hi all, purchased a new GenF R8 SV MY14 today.

Question on what rims are standard on this particular year model. It came with the cast flow machined face, gloss black accents - standard R8 rims.

Should it have the SV enhanced rims in satin graphite as standard.

Looking at a 2013 brochure it would seem prior to the MY15 release, that the SV rims come with the SV pack as standard. I got the pack, just not the rims.

Has the dealer pulled a swifty? Or is this normal?

What do you reckon?

Check directly with HSV but as far as I know the SV pack includes the SV forged wheels unless you agreed to a downgrade for some cash consideration.

R8 SV MY13 & MY14 get the SV enhanced satin graphite wheel, the MY15 car gets the new SV Rapier forged rim. If the car does not have the satin graphite rims you have been done! Either that or you purchased it off the floor without them on it.

Mmm....

Thanks.

I do recall asking about them but being told they were an extra. Does that constitute agreeing to a downgrade when I should have been told they come standard??

Not that I got the SV pack for the wheels, it was more about the extra KW etc. But I feel dudded if I was meant to get them!

Talk to Andrew at HSV. Just call HSV and ask for him. At the end of the day if the dealer says we sold you this as an SV with stock wheels at $xxxx and you agreed to the price you might not have anywhere to go. If you actually paid RRP or what the majority are paying things might be more in your favour. Good luck. There is a huge difference in weight between the cast Clubbie wheels and the forged SV wheels.

Just had a look on the HSV site. Doesn't look like the SV is a set pack anymore but you pick and choose. If that is the case with your car you might be out of luck. I would still call HSV to get your facts straight before going back to the dealer.

Thanks mate.

Just had another look at the contract. They only charged me just over 2k for the pack. I think it retailed closer to $4995. This is probably the reason.

At least they haven't charged you full wack for the pack. Now you have $3k for a wheel upgrade at least.

regardless of what they charged you for the pack, if the pack is supposed to come with the wheels then you should have a leg to stand on regarding the purchase contract. As suggested above, clarify with HSV first and go from there.

It is a new vehicle so as long as the model and spec and upgrade pack etc are specified as such on the contract, then that is what they must provide you.

good luck with it.

Thanks all.

Spoke with HSV (Andrew) today and he confirmed that during the release of the MY14 series they moved from making the wheels as a standard option. This also meant a reduction in the price from 5k to 2k. I was charged 2k. So no satin graphite wheels.

All good. So happy with the car anyway. Massive step up from the E3. Nothing is going to wipe the smile off my face everytime I start it up!

I thought as much from the HSV site. If you wanted them can you get a set of the forged wheels for $3k?????

Yep, you can. Just don't know about the 3k value.

I don't mind the R8 wheels.

Although the new SV Rapier wheels look the business....

$3K would be a swap over price, i believe they would require less than 150km on them for that.

.. well done with the purchase

I bought a SV pack R8 MY14 Tourer late last year and it came like this...

and they are the standard rims on the SV pack now.. according to HSV and the dealer
and I have to say I am pretty happy with the SV pack with a manual trans in the wagon
(it was a no cost addition in my case :) )

I'd get the forged wheels if I were you 3k is cheap compared to say 1500 to 2000 a rim for forgelines and that price was when the Aussie was 86c or so maybe a bit higher so who knows what price they are now.

As an aside there are a couple of guys in the States who are running 305/30 19s on standard SS rims (9" wide and P57 offset) at stock height without rubbing. That seems to be too good to be true. Have the inner plastics changed from VE to VF? The G8 forum had a guy running 305s but he trimmed the inner guard and rolled the guards to run P45 offset on a 10.5" rim. Offshore what size tyre are you running? You have P48? If I still had my spare W rear rim I would buy a cheap and nasty 305/30 20 and chuck it on the back but alas I gave it away.

285/30 on 10 inch rim +48 had to roll the guard slightly bit hard to tell but there is room to move it closer in not much though unless you mod the plastics I think but maybe +52 hard to say unless I put the car up on wheel ramps so pressure is still on the wheel so I can check properly. I'd like to run 295 or 305 but too late now for me unless I get two more rear ones. I think next time I can go 295 with my rims if I pump the guards more slightly

Makes me very suspicious of the Claims about 305s.

Those springs are not at the rim height there inside the wheel height I think (better with 20s i guess in that respect compared to 19s ) so you can mod the plastic quiet a bit and get a bit of room in there. I didnt see much just stuck the phone up there and hoped for the best and manged to get a decent shot. I stuck my arm though the rim spokes to feel the gap with my hand.
