Hi. I'm new to this forum and about to receive delivery of a new GTS. My question is, what is the opinion of the forum readers on this topic?
An Internet search yields differing opinions from different "expert".
I was wondering what you guys, Holden owners think.

Modern cars don't need running in like years ago. Drive it normally and give it a bit of stick if you like, but only after the car is warmed up.
Drive it like you stole it for the first 1000-1500 km, dump the oil and then drive it normal.

It is all a personal thing, I like to warm into them pretty quick, inc power runs on the dyno once I'm happy everything is settled. I change the oil regularly as well, being it is a factory engine most of the hard work has been done, so don't be afraid to get into it. I would still change the oil at probably a 1000kms and again at 2500kms just for interests sake, see whats in the oil and go from there.

Remodel the firewall with your right foot once it's warm, it's the only way to be sure it's getting run in

It will have been driven like it was stolen at Pre-delivery anyway, so no point babying it. :D

had plenty of rebuilt motors and never had a problem with run ins.
Warm them up first and then load up the motor, don't nurse it but don't wring its neck out.
Having said that, my last engine, I got dyno run in and his words were, get heat in it first and then fully load it up and work it hard.
His logic, if its going to go, it with go on the dyno.....
Many theories out there....My take on it is make sure you do quiet a few oil changes initially, you will be surprised what drops out initially from the oil...

My recommendation with a new LS car is change the oil asap! If you wait till it's 1st service is way too long! :yup:

Spot on Mick, I generally do 3 oil changes before 5000kms....As a wise irish man would say to be sure to be sure :)

Agree with the frequent oil changes when new, the crap that comes out - plus what is in the filter when cut open says it's needed.
Usually very small bits of Marking paint, grit from castings, bearing (copper looking flecks) etc. etc.
You don't won't that getting thought the filter and going for around of the nicely machined parts.
The only new vehicle I shouldn't have bothered was my Holden Volt, the oil was pristine and so was the filter - very strange indeed as there are usually traces.
Maybe GM took extra car running these up after build or to flushed them some how, luckily the engine is a good one.
I doubt it was a line rework, maybe just lucky it was a really clean put together mass produced one.

Thrash it from day one......just go easy on the brakes as they require bedding in....your engine most certainly does not....been there ., done that

Yep give it to from day 1 and you will probably dyno a bit higher than average compared to those that baby it.

Yes if the engine is up to Op temp & so long as you don't sit it on the limiter all day it'll be fine!

I dont worry about getting it up to operating temperature,I always look at the oil temperature .It tells you when you can start flogging it or not.I have my coolant temperature come up within 2 minutes of moving but oil temps can be 10 minutes before it reaches max, but drive it hard but not thrashing it

If you have to wait for oil temp your using the wrong oil. Multi weight oils mitigate the requirement of having to be up to temp. Get the coolant temp up and pound it. 215000k's on my ls and no problems when I've used a good 10w60 oil
